I know its Atlanta but I guess it could happen anywhere. The daughters story sounds kind of fishy though. I know I have had a few tuffs with motorist but I have never wanted to hit a car with my motorcycle. Sounds like they hit him and made up the other story. But just my opinion.

Also from the fathers perspective I don't think I would have shot if it look liked he was leaving.

Bogart — A man is facing a murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed a motorcyclist who followed his daughters home from a department store.

Richard Harold Gear, 45, claimed he was acting in self-defense when he shot Bryan Joseph Mough around 6:45 p.m. Monday as Mough drove his motorcycle past Gear's house, Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said.

The daughters, ages 17 and 19, had called their father on a cell phone to tell him they were being followed, Berry said. As they arrived home, Gear was waiting at the end of his driveway with a pistol, Berry said.

Mough, 21, drove past the house, turned around and made another pass. Gear fired his .40-caliber semiautomatic gun two or three times, hitting Mough once in the back, Berry said.

Gear called 911 after the shooting, as did neighbors, and sheriff's deputies arrested Gear on a murder charge, Berry said.

"He made an unspecified claim of self-defense," Berry said.

Mough was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Gear's daughters and Mough apparently left the parking lot of a Target in nearby Athens around the same time Monday evening, Berry said. Tempers flared as the drivers headed west toward Bogart.

Gear's daughters told investigators Mough cut them off, they made obscene gestures at him and Mough ran into their car at one point, Sheriff Berry said.

"There is evidence of a collision between Mough's motorcycle and the vehicle operated by Gear's daughters," Berry said, adding authorities do not yet know who initiated contact.

"We've got questions about how it happened," he said.

Investigators went to Target for witnesses and looked at surveillance videos but found nothing to indicate Mough met the girls inside the store or in the parking lot, Berry said.

Sounds like premeditation.

I also notice he didn't call the cops until after he shot Mough in the back for driving on the street in front of his house. He had time to get prepared and lay in wait for the motorcyclist, but he didn't call 911 while he was waiting. I wonder why.

Sounds like Dad is gonna have a real tough time putting those girls through college ...

Yeah, similar could happen anywhere. I read another appeal in paper today from Copper Canyon mayor asking for help in identifying/catching teenager on crotch rocket who has been terrorizing horseback riders on public trail (where motorized vehicles are prohibited) near Lake Lewisville. He's already caused one horse to toss a 14-year old girl - and I'm sure her Daddy is not a happy camper. Let's hope that Dads - or the horseback riders - don't start playing Cowboys and dirt bike bangers.

Ill bet they pulled out in front of him and he clipped them, and they ran..he followed cause he was irritated and wanted to get their information for insurance

Guy is in big trouble because the rider of the motorcycle didn't pose a threat

I'm stationed in GA (Ft. Benning), and the mountains north of Atlanta offer some of the best riding in the country - but it takes damn near an act of Congress to get me to ride through Atlanta itself. The worst drivers Austin, DFW, and Houston have to offer pale in comparison to the fools in ATL.

Clearly none of us where there, but I've engaged a moving target or two, and witnessed countless other engagements of the sort. It's real difficult to hit something in the back if it isn't moving away from you, and if it is moving away from you that hardly constitutes a threat. If you're not in control of the most powerful weapon you own (your brain), you have no business trying to employ any other weapon.

thats gonna be the main factor despite discrepancies in the rest of the story.
Although Im sure the father "got the story straight" with his daughters before he called the police too and the only person to dispute it is dead.

shooting someone in the back usually isn't indicative of self defense. Even if the motorcyclist was harrassing them as they say, it certainly doesn't sound like their lives were at risk (at least from the incomplete information provided), and his failure to call the police to report the motorcyclist before he decided to shoot is not going to look good for him.
