So, How can I convince my wife? I'm much more worried about her than me.

If you find the answer to that question let me know.

Have her listen to the 911 tapes "stickied" to this forum...
Get her to chat with "CompVest"...
Then have her talk to my wife...I still haven't gotten a straight answer out of her as to why she decided to, other than one day she told me she was thinking about getting her permit...The rest is history...
Somethings are probably best kept a secret, just be glad she decided to do so, and then let it go...
Now we are in sync, and get all of our permits renewed in the same year...

Lately a lot of my friends, male and female have asked for my guidance on getting a CHL. It's prompted me to think about becoming an instructor myself, so I can be involved in the entire process. For my Mom, she was getting gas when she noticed things weren't quite right. She stopped pumping, got back in the car, and was loudly berated by a man in a hooded sweatshirt demanding money. She did the right thing, and put the pedal to the floor, but I got an email that she really wished she had a CHL and a pistol - because escape in the car wouldn't have been an option had she been coming out of the restroom or any other number of reasonable possibilities at a gas station.
Another friend has been dealing with a stalker, whom she's had a restraining order filed against. The police simply can not be everywhere at once. Seconds count, and backup is minutes away - that's not good odds for anyone.
It is unfortunate that logic and discussion can often fail to illustrate a good reason for a CHL, and instead events that highlight fear are more frequently successful. Getting people to accept that a firearm is a tool, and no more dangerous when properly used than a sharpened pencil, is far easier in my experience, than convincing someone that there is perfectly good reason to carry one all the time. Simply stating that it is better to have and not need, than need and not have just doesn't cut the cheese for some reason.

this is how i convinced my wife.. we're both young and she's currently a full time student and works at a school (in a teaching program) so its hard for her to carry BUT i want it to be an option.
i loaded up my glock with one in the chamber, had my 1911 in condition one and threw both of them against the wall, dropped them down the stairs, etc. showing her they will NOT discharge unless you pull the trigger (i later realized i shouldnt treat my guns this way, lol)
i then scare her from time to time, jumping out of corners, turning the lights off and making noises, etc.
and lastely i make her watch the news with me. Local news has a habit of showing how violent houston is, and being wrong about the weather of course. lol.
so i took the fear of a gun discharging on its own out of her, put the fear of being attacked into her, and gave her proof of how unsafe our city really is.

If I did that to my wife, I would get such a beat...
If anything my posting frequency would go wayyyyyyyyyyy down...
My wife also is finishing up her degree and will be starting her certification period later this year...
Remind me if we ever get aquainted, that we don't let you out of our sight...

I am so glad that I am married to a smart man! I am suprised your wife is not a widow.

1st comes the restraining order and then the divorce. This is one of the funniest posts I have ever read.

Wow. That's about the stupidest idea I've ever heard. That would be guaranteed to turn my wife off, and probably get me kicked out of the house and served with a divorce suit as well.
I think I'll try something more subtle!

i dont see how it could be a stupid idea when it worked, but to each his own.
most women in general that are not familiar with how a firearm works fear that one day it might just jump up and hurt someone.
a lot of the times, people are just too comfortable with their surroundings that they drop their guard at the wrong times.
i do not see how it could be a stupid idea, the only stupid thing i would agree on is me dropping my guns down stairs. but that was a long time ago.
and i dont scare the living daylights out of her, just little "suprises" so to speak, it keeps things interesting. she gets back at me by tickling me to death. button line is i addressed what i thought the problem was, and i was right, and i showed her the "why?"

Very good video. What is supprising is that it's on CNN. I just got back from a week long cruise and the only news channel on TV was CNN. Very depressing and left wing! I was glad to get back to the real world and alternative news sources.

Mars knows better than to try and "surprise" me.
