Do I Need a "No Trespassing Sign"?

I was told that the only way I can keep solicitors off my property is to post a "No Trespassing" sign.

At my old address solicitors were a constant problem as we lived in the Clear Lake area.

Here in the country this isn't a problem, but the funny thing is, I see these signs everywhere in the country and never in the city where the nuisance of solicitors is constant.

I view such a sign as mighty ugly, but my question is, is it really necessary to post in order to keep uninvited guests from entering onto one's property?

You need a fence or signs to enforce PC 30.05 criminal trespass.

I had a garage break-in some years ago where the burglar climbed a locked fence (8 feet tall). The burglar wasn't caught, but a police officer told me that if we didn't have signs, the DA's office would not press trespassing charges.

Most cities have a ordinance against soliciting if you have posted a 'No Solicitations' sign. We have one in the window beside the front door. Plano has an ordinance prohibiting solicitation if a property owner has a posted sign. A violation of this ordinance is a Class C misdemeanor and may result in a fine up to $500.00. They require the sign must be at least 3 by 4 in size with words to the effect: “No Solicitation or Handbills. Letters on the sign must be at least 2/3 in height.

It has greatly cut down the amount of door hangers and door-to-door salesmen we get. Those that do violate get a phone call and/or warned to not repeat the violation or face legal ramifications.
