Ruger LCP - First Impressions

I picked up the Ruger LCP I had on backorder yesterday. Paid $289 in Plano.

The box and packaging is similar to the P3AT. It came packaged with a large lock, manual, and a single magazine. Extra magazines are not yet available. The fit and finish on the LCP are really nice. The grip appears to be polished and the slide a nice black matte finish. I field-stripped the LCP. It was clean with no "junk" left over from production.

I took it out to the range and fired a total of 50 rounds of Winchester 95GR FMJ, Magtech 85GR JHP, and Federal 90GR Hydrashock. The trigger is a bit heavier than the P3AT. No failures.

If the LCP holds up, I think Ruger has a winner.

When they bring a 9 out to compete w/ the PF9 I am going to look at it very seriously for a backup.

Are the P-3AT and LCP magazines interchangeable?

I like the PF9 although it's quite a bit larger than the LCP.

Nope. The slot that engages the catch is slightly different.

You may be onto something there. Look at the interest generated by the new Walther PPS single stack, ultra-slim nine. But then look at the price. Ouch! Same goes for the Sig 239. I'd like to see a similar Ruger for around $400-450.

Haven't found anyone around here that has one yet. I'm anxious to see one. If they look as good as the pictures, I'll buy one. :thumbs2: :txflag:

I also own a P3AT and the quality and finish on the Ruger are far superior. I think the design of the grip makes it easier to hold and shoot as well.

Too bad Ruger did not learn from Kel Tec and go to a metal magazine release. I understand some new Ruger owners are already having issues wth the release. The plastic gets worn down from inserting the magazines. You have to learn to insert it while you hold the release to avoid the wear.
