What ankle holster for a S&W Model 640 ?

Question about an ankle holster for a 640:

I have tried two different ankle holsters, a cheapie nylon one off e-bay and an Uncle Mikes Sidekick.

On both, there is no way for a thumbreak or top retention strap to really work since there is no hammer exposed and the top surface is smooth. Without some form of securing the 640 in the holster, I am not too confident in how long it would be before it worked it's way out.... and worked me into an ambarrassing situation.

Any ideas ? All advice will be appreciated !

Galco Ankle Glove is what you need.

Mine is open top but it has adjustable tension and holds the noisy crickett all day long and is very comfortable.

Thanks HighVelocity, I appreciate the picture and information.

Is this the one that you have, the AG-158 ?

The picture is a little confusing, shows a molded plastic holster, but the description talks about a leather holster with retention.

Looks like a comfortable rig at a fair price.

Yes Sir. That's the one. I've tried other makers ankle holsters and none were as comfortable as this one.

HighVelocity,

Any preferred dealers for the holster ? I'm running into roadblocks trying to find one via google search. Only found one dealer and he has left hand versions only.

Renegade does not appear to have a website.

Thanks again,
Dave

You going to be at the TSRA show ? If so, hope to meet you there.

You can buy it directly from Galco if you want to pay full retail. If you're not in a rush start checking ebay. I got mine from EBAY for $50 shipped with the calf strap.

Thanks HV,

My post above must have looked funny.... I was doing searches for both Galco and Renegade ankle holsters. The information above was meant for the Renegade search, I found the Galco holster you described and will be ordering it promptly as it seems to be much more available than a Renegade.

I'm not going to make the TSRA show. it's just way too far. I imagine that sooner or later we'll have a TexasCHLforum group shoot that I can make it too. I missed th last one.

Thanks again for all the help and information. I found a like new Alessi on e-bay that was made for the 640 and other J-frames, bid on it and won it this evening. Owner has already e-mailed me, I should have it Thursday or Friday.

I use the Galco Glove as well for my 642 and I decided to go with the one that has the thumb strap. I don't really think it is needed most of the time, but I do feel better having it strapped in when I have to run or when my son grabs on to my leg for a ride.

The only thing I would caution you about is that if you try to put on some after market grips, it will not work with the thumb strap.
