FPS Gaming = training tool?

Not sure if anyone uses a First Person Shooter game as a training tool, but for me I think it is somewhat valuable, especially when you're broke.

This is apparent when you are playing against another human because of the unpredictability. Is anyone doing this as well?
I've been playing Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, the AI isn't all that cracked up to be, but I've noticed that I've ran for cover whenever I needed to do an emergency and tac reload. I've also noticed that I've done the same when I shot IDPA a couple weeks back always have cover while reloading. I know usually I'll be racking up procedurals here and there, but none this time. Now if I could shoot as accurate as Tomcat, I'll be good to go.

I feel ya. I try to take things I gather from Personal Defense TV and apply it to CoD 4: MM, as well as SOCOM Navy Seals, and most recently RainBow Six: Vegas 2. including the blind fire, pie'ing a corner and things of that nature.
the adrenaline gets going, you don't know where shots are coming from, so it can be useful in that manner (just like playing paintball), but at the end of the day, you do have to take in to consideration that it is only a game. you get more lives, and therefore that tends to make one a little more agressive about moving from cover and whatnot.
though, I gotta tell ya, that COD 4 is amazing. great game.

Amazing indeed. I would go back and play the game again at a different difficulty level. Hehe, the game is also smoking hot because it heats up my graphic cards so much that I don't needed a heater in my room. And my PC is watercooled I could only imagine how hot an aircooled system would get playing COD4.

KL,
If you want to get a really good FPS that will simulate well, then you should pickup SWAT4.
In SWAT4, unlike all the other FPS, the goal is not to "kill everything that moves."
So, you get in situations where the badguys have hostages in the room with them, and also the fun task of talking a badguy into dropping his full-auto rifle that he will 33% of the time try to fire on you before you do.
Truly an underrated game.

I've played SWAT4 before and it is an awesome game, but my old system keeps bogging that I uninstalled it. I will give it a try again under the new system though.

The Expansion pack really teaches you the problem of using pistol rounds against body armor!
Fantastic game if you can get 4 people on at 1 time in Co-Op mode.

When bunny-hopping starts working in the real world, then I'll consider FPSes to be training tools, instead of a fun diversion.

Haha, I can't do the joystick on PS3. I do want to get one so I could browse the web and watch blu-ray on tv though.

I don't do bunny hops, but I've seen plenty people doing it on CS:S though.

ArmA: Combat Ops, good for more realistic combat. Not that good for room clearing like SWAT 4 is. The controls are ridiculously hard to master and the game is very unforgiving. 400 km of island to create missions on. I've never even played it online, I just keep making up all sorts of different scenarios.

CO-OP rocks especially when you play with people you know. Nothing better.

Yeah, sure, and my experience playing Microsoft Flight Simulator should count towards hours for my Comercial Flight License. I seriously hope you guys are joking.
Tons of ammo, armor, weapons that are either not legal or fantasy, rocket launchers are suprisingly easy to conceal and maneuver with, getting shot doesn't kill you or in any way limit your abilities...as long as your health bar doesn't fall to 0...health packs and first aid kits provide instant healing from that gun shot wound...ammo and weapons lying around for the taking...yeah, I see what you mean. I guess FPS's do provide realistic training for a possible encounter.
Here, hold my ray gun, while I pick up my health pack.
