Hi, I've been reading posts for about two months and appreciate the information. Ya'll convinced me to take the course on March 1, 2008, and mail it from Austin on March 3, 2008. Judging from posts, 60 days is not unusual for a pin.......I still haven't heard anything from DPS at almost a month. Guess it'll be a while. Please allow me to take a chair and continue to absorb some of the expounded wisdom.

I did order a MTAC holster based on an excellent review here.......it's supposed to be in this week (shipped today). I should have plenty of time to break it in before plastic and the famed Walley Walk.

Welcome to the forum. From what I have experienced....DPS is not consistent in the time that it takes for a PIN - not to mention the "plastic". I have heard some having to wait at least 60 days for their PIN - I was on the blessed side (24 days for my PIN). Just waiting (Processing Application) and trying to find the best holster.

As a newbie, with another couple of months to wait before CHL licensing based on the fact it's been over a month now without them showing receipt of my completed course and paperwork, or furnishing a pin, I have questions regarding the HB 1815 and carrying legally in the car concealed without issue as long as you aren't guilty of one of five critiria, ie gang member......not in personal auto, etc.

I just read and article related on the TSRA site:

and am pretty confused about the lone wolf DAs of several counties and jurisdictions and their interpetation of the law. The advice given in the article is not to be forthcoming with LEO's about having a CW, or anything else asked by the officer. Consequenses of answering, at the officers discression could lead you to jail, trial, confiscation of weapon (without return, from what I see)...........all without legal recourse for THEM breaking the law.

I have always been straight forward with LEO in the past, even when it involves my personal business, like where I'm going and why. Has it come to the point that is no longer possible to be honest without jepardizing your own rights, freedoms, and property under the law? On page 8 of the article, they have told you the responses to give LEO when stopped. This is still Texas, I can't abide by weasle words that might be necessary in some lesser parts of the country.

I know it's a heavy question, but it truely bothers me. Does anyone have any insite?

State recieved my Application on 2/22. Just got my pin 4/14. Online still shows No application on file.

I would NEVER advise anyone to lie to a LEO. But... I do advise that you not give any more info than you absolutely need to.

It is very disturbing that certain DA's are ignoring the law. I am well aware that not everyone in Texas can just run out and get a CHL to protect themselves from those who are actually sworn to uphold the law. But, for those of you who CAN, I strongly suggest that you DO.

I understand, my grandfather was a Texas Ranger, one uncle DPS, another was a Capt on Austin PD. I have never thought of LEO as anything but good guys. I had never considered not being anything but open and honest, till that article. I hope some level of common sense prevails.....

Interesting article. My question, and this maybe quite obvious, is why didn't the legislature just take out the "traveling" provision altogether. Just write it so that you are allowed to have a firearm in your car as long as you meet the five requirements mentioned.

I can't understand the logic of much of the legislative system. Possibly an improvement would be to ban all lawyers from being allowed to be legislators/make laws or make legislators remove two laws from the books for every one they pass??

Mailed app: 3/3/2008
Received pin: 4/29/2008............58 days

Maybe only two more months to go. Might go get a whole six pack for the processing part.
