Hey, guys.

Given my love of firearms and exposure to the M-16 during my 8 years of military service, I've always wanted to own an AR-15. Well, today, the day of my 1st wedding anniversary, the wife "deceives" me into going to our local Academy to look at patio furniture. (I had, in fact, been mentioning to her that Academy has some decent outdoor stuff there). Once inside the store we're headed towards their "garden" center, which is just past the firearms section in our store. In passing the gun counter my wife says, oh yeah, we need to stop here to pick up your "anniversary present", my first AR-15. I was stunned.

Rather than stall any further, here is my new toy:

great firearm,may i suggest an A-3 upper on your next AR it allows you to mount various optics as well as a detachable carry handle with the A2 sights

Do some target shooting. The 1st anniversary is "paper" you know.

Right you are! The wife asked for, and got, a pretty elaborate $450 shelving/organizational system (to hold paper and other goodies) for her craft room, and I got a Bushmaster to shoot through paper. So, in a round-about way, we did do the "paper" thing.

Do you (or anyone else) know if the Bushmaster M4 (XM15-E2S) is chambered for both 5.56mm and .223 ammo? The stamp on the side of the rifle indicates 223 - 5.56 (see below pic), but the clerk at Academy said that, without a new upper receiver, it was chambered solely for .223. Anyone know for sure?

Does you wife by any chance teach a class on "Anniversy Present for Husbands"? I'd love to have my wife attend one of those.

According to the bushmaster web site (http://www.bushmaster.com/catalog_xm15_BCWA3F14M4IZ.asp), it is chambered for either round.

5.56 NATO (or NATO 5.56) is stamped on the barrel, which I take to mean that the weapon will safely chamber and shoot both 5.56mm and .223 rounds?

Congrats on the AR. Does your wife have a sister!?!
