I'm looking for a good nylon belt for casual wear. Background: I'm a pretty big guy with a "Dunlop" body, no hips, and no butt. Normally, I wear a stiff leather belt and Perry suspenders. I'd like a nylon belt that would work with the suspenders (kinda like not having to pull my pants up constantly.) Right now, I'm looking at two options:

5.11 Trainer belt 1.5"
Wilderness Tactical Frequent Flyer belt 1.25" 5-stitch

Has anyone here had experience with these belts? Did they provide enough support & comfort for everyday wear? Which do you prefer? And, are there any others I should look at before deciding?

I can't help you on the 5.11, but I like my Wilderness Instructor belts very much. I have one in Black and one in Coyote and wear one of them most every weekend. Both have the plastic stiffener. They might be okay without it, but I am satisfied.

I have a frequent flier belt the plastic loops allow the belt to loosen if the Velcro isn't holding very well. I would opt for the belt with the metal loops or, the instructor's belt.

I have the Wilderness belt. Two actually, they work very well and I recommend them.

I like my Wilderness Instructor Belt but it doesn't give like a leather belt so I don't know if it would be comfortable with a muffin top.

I have had both and like the Wilderness Tactical Instructor better than the 5.11. Both are very similar, I just happen to like the buckle better on the Wilderness, you will also have the option to do a three stich, five stich, or the plastic stiffener depending on how stiff you'd like the belt to be. It is important to follow their instructions on giving them the proper size. Hope that helps!

Cant say on the Wilderness Tactical, but I have the 511 and I like it. Its stiff enough that your holster doesnt roll, and can be infinately adjusted to my ever changing waist. I think where it would really shine is with a IWB holster, but I dont have one of those either because I found this belt after I bought my Bianchi. If I had the belt when I tried the IWB it might have affected my desicion.

i have a uncle mike's instructor's belt that works very nice and is a bit cheaper then the two.

I have never tried the Wilderness belt, but I have tried the 5.11 belt. I loved it, at the time. After a few months, the edging started coming unraveled. It wasn't a big deal and didn't affect the stability of the belt, but the belt just didn't look as presentable as it did before. I replaced it when I lost some weight with a Galco 5 stitch web belt. I feel the quality of the Galco belt is higher. It wasn't too long after that that I tried a Beltman belt for the first time, and I haven't worn a web belt since. Just my $0.02 worth (if that).

I have both. The Wilderness belt is somewhat heavier than the 5.11, but the 5.11 cost less. The W.E. buckle holds better for some reason too. Both are sufficiently stiff for a fullsize 45 carry. If I decide to replace my 5.11 after it wears or if it becomes too long etc (or too short!) then I will probably go back to the Wilderness belt.

Another option is Blackhawk. I wear the CQB Rescue belt daily. The D ring does work, and will hold over 200 pounds swinging freely. I often have cause to be "latched on".

The gun belt that is near identical to the Rescue belt is what I use for IDPA, and when carrying larger frame handguns.
