I know a lot of folks feel a shotgun is an outstanding home defense weapon and understand/appreciate the reasons. I have one major concern, however. I have a 4 year old in my house. As a result, my home defense weapons are handguns in rapid-access push button safes.

How do people secure their shotguns so only they or their spouse can access it? A gun safe's fine, but if I ever really needed it, I would not take the time to go to my closet and get to it. My daughter is upstairs and my first priority would be to get up there ASAP.

Is there any kind of under the bed, rapid access system for shotguns that locks?

The kids make a difference today. My youngest grandchild is 8.
Shotgun at our house is an elivated threat weapon. Otherwise it is in the lockup w/ the hunting rifles. (Which also become elivated threat weapons when things get orange.)

If the problem is how to keep a shotgun out of reach of an infant, hardware stores sell hooks or pegs meant to hang tools on the wall. You can put a pair of those above the closet door on the inside of the closet and hang the shotgun there. It's in easy reach of anyone who is more than 5'5", out of reach of infants.

My daughter has no trouble getting a step ladder. Also, we get neighborhood kids every now and again. I really want something absolutely secure and locked.

Be better than completely locked up in a safe.
