Hey all,
I have a new in box never fired Smith 638 with Crimson Trace Laser Grips to sell. Gun has never been fired, just bought it last week, then I found a Colt Cobra I fell in love with, so I don't need this one. Paid 429.00 for the gun, $125 for the grips. Will sell both for $525.00. Will not sell gun or grips separately. FTF only in Houston, please. Will only consider trade for Rugers or Glock 19 3rd gen. Please respond to
lanternlad@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Why do people expect me to "work on the price?! Its a brand-new gun, never fired by myself or anyone else, I shouldn't have to take a huge loss on it. I'm not a dealer. I'm already losing money at this price. If you can find it somewhere else cheaper, then buy it there for God's sake. I'm sick of emails asking me if "I'd take 350 for it". $400 is not a bad price for a new gun. $125 for laser grips is cheaper than you'll find them anywhere else. /rant off

Maybe they're used to gun show prices.
Good luck with your sale.

No one stepped on any toes, but frankly it gets tiresome when people try to low-ball you all the time. I understand looking for a deal, but come on. I've had 10 emails on this gun, none of which offered the asking price. As for trade show prices, like I said, I'm not a dealer, just an average guy. I can't compete with gun show prices, and I won't even try.

Part of selling a used item is losing money on it. Why would anyone hassle with a stranger from Houston, knowing that you want almost full retail for something that we wouldn't buy anyway. I wouldn't buy it with those grips. If you want to sell it to me, and I MUST take the grips, you're gonna take a beating on the price. Personally, I'd rather pay full retail than save $25 on a used item.
I'll give you $295 for the pistol without the grips.

Then by all means, buy it somewhere else. Weapon is SPF, BTW.

If you'll actually READ all of his posts, you will see that he publicly
solicited our opinions.
I'm ready to accept your apology.

It seems this whole thing could have been avoided rather simply.
I've done a fair bit of trading in a flea market environment, and in online forums. Typically, a seller will post/list a price somewhat higher than he is willing to accept. The potential buyer then offers a price slightly lower than what they are actually willing to pay. The hope is that they both meet somewhere in the middle, that way both of them think they got a really good deal.
If the price on an item is fixed, it might be a good idea to mentin that in the original listing. Words and phrases such as 'firm' and 'not negotiable' have prevented plenty of misunderstandings, I'm sure.
