Anyone know approx. how many rounds I need to shoot to break this gun in? I had a few failure to feeds today and and the last round in the magazine would never make it into the chamber. Shot about 75 rounds through it today.

The history of the P40 was troubled, but very little of it was the fault of the gun.

I'm not saying that every gun was trouble free and I'm sure there were problems.

But Kel-tec discontinued the P40 and the the P40 changeover kit because the majority of the returns indicated no problem with the gun.

With the potent caliber in such a lightweight gun, limp wristing becomes an issue.

These guns were discontinued several years ago, so the need for any break-in is doubtful, unless you were fortunate to find a new unsold gun somewhere.

Concentrate on not limp wristing and also try having someone else shoot it to see if the problem remains.

I believe that it has not been shot to much. Today at the range I shot the p-40, my XD sub .40, and my Springfield 1911 loaded. I had a couple of failure to feeds with my XD too, none with the 1911. If I am in fact, limp wristing wouldn't it happen with the 1911 as well?

It will show up in the 1911 but more in the p40. That little hand cannon is smaller & probably does not weigh near as much as the 1911.

Small pistols with lightweight slides don't exert as much inertia and as such have a real tendency to be prone to FTF from limp wristing. A full size 1911 slide is heavier so is better at shoving the rounds into battery, even without as much support.

I am sure you are "laughing it up"! I might give it another chance. Any tips on how to prevent "limp wristing" I workout four days a week with weights and cardio. I am also married so I hope that my wrists are not limp! Maybe it needs a custom flintknapper "Fluff and Buff"!

I can promise you I don't limp wrist my pistols...and that the P-40 while produced...was about 50-50 (at best) in regards to NOT having problems from the factory. Nothing has changed at Kel-Tec. They still turn out certain pistols that are a "crap shoot".

I had a P-40 years ago when they first came out. Kel-Tec got two chances at trying to get it to "run"...and when it became apparent to me that they couldn't or wouldn't fix it, I sent it to Jack Fuselier who got it back to me in a week running like a top.

You don't want to hear my "Kel-Tec story" (unrelated to it functioning after Jack worked on it).

I would still have that pistol today...if not for the worst customer service of any gun company on the face of this earth! Anyway, its a long story...that still makes my blood boil a dozen years later (involves a third trip to KT for night sights).

It is "possible" that you are not providing enough recoil platform for the snappy little P-40, but it is just as likely that the pistol needs attention. Mine was 100% reliable after Jack worked on it. Kel-Tec didn't have a clue....and didn't really care.

Jack also does some of the best "plating" around. I haven't needed his services in years, but I would highly recommend him from my past experiences. He has done all of my nickle plating in the past...and the gun smithing on the P-40 I mentioned earlier. Great guy.
