My new secret weapon...well not really. Sig SCT short review

I was fortunate enough to purchase a Sig 229 SCT 9mm a short while back and until today it had not been fired. As I was getting ready for a trip to the range today I handed the pistol to a good friend who thought that he wanted to switch to a Glock 19 for carry. I was pretty sure that the Sig would be a better fit for his hand and so I let him check it out. I immediately had to make it clear to him that this wasn't a pistol I was ready to part with.

At first look it appears to be pretty much like any other Sig 229, but the first reluctant squeeze of the trigger changed my mind. As my member name implies I am not a stranger to Sig's, but this one is different. The combination of the Siglite rear sights with the TruGlo TFO front is the perfect setup on this pistol, at least for me. The smooth DA/SA trigger was the best I have felt on any Sig period. I bought my first 229 .40, which I still own, in 1994 and while that first one impressed me, this newer version blew me away. The magazines advertised as 17 rounders, BTW easily hold and function well with 18 rounds. The first 18 rounds created one ragged hole in my target at 15 feet, followed by one big smile on my face. After 50 flawless rounds I hesitantly placed it back in a soft case and handed it to my friend in the next lane who was trying on my G19 for size. Let's just say I had to wait for him to run out of ammo to get another opportunity to squeeze that sweet trigger. He no longer wants a G19 ;-) .

I have been spoiled since I discovered 1911's for myself, but this new Sig is a joy to shoot and while at least for my taste it's a little too big and heavy for a carry pistol, it loads of fun and definitely an option for IDPA, or night stand duty.

I guess that I have become a bit of a 1911 snob, if there even is such a thing, so it was great to find another pistol that I enjoy shooting just as much.

Just thought I'd share. YMMV.

And before anyone says it, the pistol is not covering any flyers.

Congrats on the new pistol, that is an awesome grouping. How does that measure up with the groupings of your other pistols?

I am not sure how to answer that. I think that I was having a good day, but 15 feet is not very far either. Most of my pistols, if not all of them are capable of accuracy far exceeding my abilities. Let's just say my groups tend to open up at 25 yards. This pistol is just easy to shoot and I would attribute some of that to it's weight, along with the excellent sight combination. I was breaking in a Pro Covert II on the same visit with similar results, but I kind of expect that from a pricey 1911.

Come on up Jason, then we'll see what kind of grouping it's really capable of. I could learn a thing or two, or more I'm sure.

A day at the range with you sounds like a great time...I will definitely let you know when I come up that way again! Thank you for the offer and have a great weekend.
