Lots of pictures from our first steel target shoot

Yesterday evening we did our first steel target shoot, and we had a great time. I wanted to share pictures, just in case others out there are like me and enjoy seeing pictures of people shooting. :fire

This was our first time shooting steel targets, and we probably fired around 200 rounds. It was a different experience than shooting paper, and much more fun. MrsDRW and I competed to see who could get the most hits on a 10 round mag out of the XD9 (we tied).

We also have a long range target at 200 yards that we shot with the scoped Ruger 22.

 I was actually thinking that if a cow got hit, the shooting would stop and the knives would come out! We're planning an upcoming slaughter anyway (and we slaughter ourselves), so it wouldn't have been a complete disaster. Happily, no animals were harmed in the making of this event. :) I can't wait to do long range rifle shooting.

And, MrsDRW mentioned last night that she'd like to take our oldest daughter back out there by themselves so she can give daughter a more controlled training session. I think that'll be a great "mother daughter" activity and I'm blessed beyond belief to have such a fabulous wife who comes up with these kinds of ideas.

Sean, we left most of the guns home for yesterday's shoot, including that lovely 226 which is a great shooter. Yesterday we were focused on 22's for the most part, since it was our first time shooting steel. I can't wait to shoot 45acp at these targets.

You might want to really stake down those targets when you point the 45s at them :smilelol5:

Yes, we forgot to bring the sledgehammer and consequently I had to walk out there and reset the targets every 5 hits or so. Next time....

I'll admit I've been out of the slaughtering business quite a while but it seems like I remember it being quite a bit easer to have the animal walk himself to the slaughterhouse rather than have to hook the dead one up to the truck and have to drag it.

That does look line fun.

I've never shot at steel targets. What is the chance of a ricochet? Or do they spen easily enough to where that's not an issue?

A strong tractor with a front end loader greatly simplifies things.

That picture is about as cute as a bug's ear. You're a lucky man to have such a family, and all that land to enjoy with them.

The Annoyed Boy just graduated from high school the weekend before last. He's 18, 5'11", 250#, and strong like bull. I started him out on a little ol' used youth sized .22 rifle when he was 7. Now he owns is own Savage 10FP-HS Precision heavy barreled bolt rifle in .308 and his own 1911. If his first two gun purchases are a heavy barreled .308 and a 1911 pistol, I guess I raised him right!
