Howdy Ya'll,
Need some advice. I have 1000 rounds thru the TRP with the last 600 being failure free. I am ready to start carrying it. I am looking for a high quality, leather, rigth handed, belt holster which can do straight drop or FBI. Quality is more important then price to me in a holster. Something that will sit close in to my love handles. It's a long gun, so it would be nice to find something that sits relatively high. It also makes a good armrest :-)

After all that, a suggestion or to on an IWB would be helpful as well. Thanks!

Alos remember the lead time for all quality holster makers is going to be from five to seven months or some even more for leather.
Kydex will be shorter if you like that.

I'm thinking of getting a Mohammed Holster but it may not ride high enough for you.

I like Tucker Gunleather for leather holsters and Comp-Tac for Kydex. Tucker does have a very nice leather lined Kydex holster with a belt attachment system that allows for just about any cant you want. I have it for my M&P 9c and it is very comfortable.

I have a Comp-Tac for my Glock 19. It's a nice holster, but I also have a Bianchi Model 100 leather which I am looking forward to trying. My Glock is having a grip reduction done on it so I have not had a chance to try the Bianchi.

I also just purchased a new Springfield Loaded 1911, and I just put my money on a Silent Thunder IWB from Tucker. I realize you wanted leather, but this model is leather lined and had some real nice reviews. It also only has a 3-4 week lead time.

For a long 1911, I don't believe there is an IWB that comes close to the Brommeland MAX-CON V. The wait time used to be maddening, but Coal Creek Armory now has them in stock http://www.coalcreekarmory.com/holsters_brommeland.html . I've also heard great things about the Milt Sparks VMII http://www.miltsparks.com/VM-2.htm and the MTAC if you don't mind Kydex http://www.comp-tac.com/catalog/product ... ucts_id=95.

I am not a fan of Kydex for a 1911, but I like my finish the way it is. I know you'll get holster wear out of leather, but I consider that character...out of kydex I consider it scratches. I say keep the Kydex for the tupperware.(No offense, I love my XD). That said, you can get leather lined Kydex and if you don't mind the plastic feel against your body it can be a great option for some.

I have the Max-Con V for 3" and 5" 1911, and they are by far the best out of my Box o' Holsters.

The best thing you could do is find a dealer with a large stock of quality holsters. Borrow a pistol that fits the holsters they have and simply try as many as they will let you try.

A good holster is like a good pair of shoes. One model may fit you perfectly and the next won't. I don't know how many holsters I went through until I found what works for me.

And above all..... DON'T FORGET A GOOD BELT!

For a leather OWB holster, I like Garrity, Del Fatti, Milt Sparks and even Galco. For IWB, I like the Comp-tac MTAC, and Milt Sparks SSII.
