I am happy to announce the arrival of a new family member as of last Friday.

I had been eyeing it for the past couple of weeks at Jim Pruett's Guns and Ammo, and it finally followed me home.

Nothing fancy, but hopefully it will work into the carry rotation. Regretfully I will not be able to make it to the range (Shiloh) until Wednesday, so I don't have a range report.

Very nice. I'm sure it will serve you well. I have two Springfields and love them both.

Good lookin carry & I really like the grips. Like'em so much I have a set on my Springer too. If I could only have one 1911 it would be my Springer.

Ahh. The good ole PX-9109. Mine is well worn, but it shoots straight and true. It will serve you well.

In my view, the Springfield Loaded 1911s are the best bang for the buck (pun intended). I have a lot of 1911s, including two Springfields. They are as good as guns that cost me a lot more! In terms of frame-to-slide fit, they are the best non-custom guns I've seen in a number of years.

BTW, don't be depressed if it shoots low -- I mean really low! This was a common problem with Springfield Loaded 1911s a while back, but Springfield will change either the front or rear sight, if necessary.

I had to buy two, since the first one was aquired by the "Wife Unit"...

Charles is dead on with the things he said...Albiet, I was thinking I was going to have to buy her something like Charles's Les Baer Thunder Ranch 1911...I still cringe at the pricetag on that wonderful piece of machinery...

Some of ya'll at the first CHL Forum day at PSC may remember her reaction when she shot his TR at the Texas Stars that afternoon...I thought I was a goner in the wallet...

But I think we got away with it with these recent purchases...Springfields are a very nice base weapon to start with...That doesn't mean I would not take the keys to a Kimber or other mainstream flavor of the month pistol...

Recomendation...Get the pistol to a good armorer/gunsmithy...Make sure the mag catch is where it needs to be...If there is any play in the way the magazine seats when in the pistol...I would get that tweeked...And if the smithy is good, they'll polish a few other things up as well...1911's are really fun to do things to to help them function better than they already do...

I was able to make it to Shiloh yesterday, and I put 107 rounds of WWB though the pistol. No, there are no pictures of the targets. I don't need the grief.

I had the 2 blued mags that come with the Springfield, 2 Colt 7 round, 1 MacCormick 8 round, and 1 Wilson 47D 8 round magazines. I had numerous fail to go into battery problems with all mags used. The round did not strip completely from the mag, and the slide stayed back. I had to put a quick palm strike on the slide to get back into battery. There were no FTF or FTEs. Did I mention that there were numerous fail to go into battery. Maybe a few hundred more rounds will cure this, if not, then back to Springfield.

The weapon was clean and well lubricated prior to the range trip. When I cleaned the pistol after the trip, it was easy to see how tight the slide and frame mating was due to the wear on the parkerizing. There is no play side to side or up and down. All in all it's a little tighter than I thought it would be.

There is one thing that is bothering me that perhaps someone could answer. I bought the pistol new, but when I first stripped it for cleaning it looks like someone had tried to etch their initials on the inside top of the slide. I don't know if they are initials, but there is scraping there that appears to be someone's inept attempt to personalize the weapon. The barrel had a little fouling, and I was told this was from Springfield test firing the pistol. Why is this on a new weapon?

Pretty sure the initials are makers marks. I just got a NIB Champion Operator and Champion GI , both have some kind of writing in them. The operator has made in Ill. and the GI has made in Brazil.

By the way congrats. Took mine out to the ranch last weekend and the Operator shot high at 25yds and right at 75yds. Didn't miss a lick. Held a couple of inches with me shooting freehand at 25yds.....within 6" at 75yds on coke cans.

I am curious about 1911 clips??
I was going to order some more from Springfield with their offer, but father in law told me to get Wilson Combat....almost 4X the price?? Anyone have any experience with either. I want reliable above all...stainless or blued?

I read someone's post on M1911 Forum, and they mentioned that Springfield etches the last 3 serial numbers inside the slide. I will take a better look the next time I have the pistol apart for cleaning.

I'm curious about the Springfield magazines also. The 2 that came with my pistol are okay, and I will probably use my "Loaded" coupon to buy some more of them.
