Anyone ever heard of this company? I really like the G3 and these appear to be pretty high quality clones.

Not bad...but I bet a 1:10" would stabilize heavier rounds much better than a 1:12

A buddy of mine has one it's a great gun and reliable too. It's a bit heavy but a good shooter.

I have no first-hand experience with them, so take this with a grain a of salt, but they have a generally very good reputation for being just about the best HK clone on the market. I have been drooling over them for some time, but have always spent my money on something else, so far. Who knows what 2009 might bring, though.

The PTR 91 was developed by JLD using the tooling from the H&K arms plant in Portugal, . According to JLD, the majority of the core parts are manufactured in the US.
I don't own one by myself, but I used to shoot one, compare to my HK91,it is still a sweet rifle.

Some of us old guys need info like you have on the new shooters.

I've got both an M1A (standard, loaded) and a PTR91. I like them both, and I like them without optics. Both are far more accurate than my eyesight or shooting skills will allow. But w/r to the PTR91: It breaks down almost as easily as an AK47. The only tricky part is that when reassembling and putting the bolt carrier back into the rifle, you first have to twist the bolt clockwise 1/4 turn and pull forward so the rockers (looks like cylindrical ball bearings) will tuck back into the bolt. This part of reassembly is not intuitive. But it is well made. In fact, my bolt says "HK" on it. And magazines? Fugedaboudit. You can buy them CHEAP over the internet ($6 or less). My only issue is that for me (with my fat head), I wish the sights sat a wee higher (both front and back) than they do. Nevertheless, it is well-balanced - the weight makes it feel solid, not heavy - and I can see why some people make it their "TROUBLE" gun. I just wish .308 ammo was cheaper. Bottom line: If you had to pick just one, the PTR91 is cheaper and you're not really giving up anything, except the outside possibility of M1 thumb.

I just recently got the latest paper catalog from CDNN (their downloadable version doesn't have firearm prices in it), and they have a couple of models of the PTR91 in it for $899, IIRC (under a grand, anyway). That's a heck of a deal, if you have the funds. I don't, right now.

I owned one then sold it. BEAUTIFUL gun. Everything else felt like a toy in comparison.

Why did I sell it? Just about the hardest hitting rifle I own. My Garand shooting the larger 30.06 has significantly LESS recoil than the PTR.

That's why I sold the PTR after only like 50 rounds - it just became no fun to shoot.

They were probably designed with 147-150 grain bullets in mind, but you're right, I would prefer a 1:10 twist.
