Freedom Over Texas with Fireworks

My family has just informed me that we will be going to the Houston fireworks display and staying in a nearby hotel. The official website for the event states "No Weapons" on festival grounds. Is it 30.06 posted or do they use metal detectors at the entrances?
Anyone that has attended previously may already know the details but any info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Is that the one in Elanor Tinsley park? That's public property.

Yes, That's the place. I was wondering if they have metal detectors set up as you pass through the entrances.

I don't know about metal detectors and (like you) don't see anything on the
website with any more details on their
policy. Although, I do wonder if their no skates policy includes Heelys and if they'll actually kick out kids wearing them.
Can anyone suggest some good places to watch the Houston fireworks from outside the Chevy festival zone. We'd rather cook our own burgers & dogs and enjoy tasty adult beverages. I moved here less than a year ago and I don't know good sight lines for the pyrotechnics show.
Thanks y'all.

The Waugh Drive bridge and surrounding area around the bayou are pretty nice. They offer a pretty sweet view of downtown and it's outside the fenced-in area. I will be on my bicycle that night in the same spot. I would suggest getting there early though as it can fill up fast. Also if you get there around dusk you can check out the Waugh Drive Bat Colony take flight. Its a little stinky around there, but hey I always thought it was the homeless. :-)
