I had an idea after reading a post about an expierience at a shooting range that was not very pleasurable. Just hear me out first,I was thinking if a bunch of members got together and purchased some land we could all split the costs and have a place to go shooting or even camping or just to get out of the city.. Of course all of this would need to be done in a legally binding way. We could also come up with some basic rules for the range. We could even get some land that have deer on it so we could use it for a deer camp also.So what do you guys think? Good idea or Bad idea or am I have I just lost it!

But, I think it is a poor idea unless it was just 3 or 4 guys. And with only 3 or 4 guys it would be difficult to find a piece of land that would be suitable for your purpose that you could afford. Unless you WERE LOADED.

Deer Camps are one thing.....every person pays the same ONE Guy. A bunch getting together to buy land (and make the payments) would be a whole 'nuther ball of wax.

I just thought I would throw it out there, I recently lost the place I usually go hunt and I am starting to get worried now that I dont have a place. The guy I used to go with starting doing "ice" or "crack" and I figured that I dont need to be around that so I quit my camp. I guess it will be public hunting lands this year.

Texas is such a big state that no statewide effort is going to suit everyone. I suggest finding a club near where you live and investing in it, in terms of time and effort.

I don't know what to say about hunting. It seems to be turning into a rich man's sport, except for squirrels and rabbits.

I see it the same as starting a local airplane club. If the paperwork is drawn up properly to begin with, the club can succeed. You just need to be careful and draw up the paperwork well.

But, I also agree that we would need to do it on a local basis to satisfy most of the state. We could do it as a statewide basis only if we bought several pieces of land around the state.

But this might be something TSRA could look into for future plans. Maybe not quite the same as suggested, but if the NRA could buy and set up the Whittington Center, maybe TSRA could set up something similar. I would probably kick in a separate set of dues for membership in something like that, or double the current dues if the money was dedicated to it.

It's not a BAD idea. However it is one that would be difficult to pull off. I am with you though on somewhere to shoot. I get tired of going to "the range" and having to live by their rules. Mostly no rapid fire, and yahoo's that have no concept of muzzle control. I have been looking at land in southern Oklahoma. It is much cheaper than North Texas land.

I kinda thought that's what PSC was!
