I'm watching this as I type it, but I do have one observation to point out. The producers of this show chose to put this woman with the most extreme of gun enthusiasts. This man and his son, who homeschools by the way, look like the typical redneck from the hills. Wouldn't it have made more sense to put her with a family that has a lifestyle similar to hers, but who believes in the right to own guns and exercises that right. That's the problem with these kinds of programs, they put complete opposites together and hope for the worst.

So far i see it as kinda anti :(

I just finished watching the entire episode. I was glad to see that at the end she came to realize that there are responsible gun owners, but she still sees a need for restrictions. Overall, I thought it was ok, but I still think she should have been put with a family more similar in lifestyle. That not just country people who live in trailers own guns, but people in the city and in the suburbs do as well.

and they're in Ohio. not Mississippi, or somesuch.

They shoulda put Pia in a crack house with some Gangsta's that rob people for drug money, since, you know, that's the actual demographic of people that she thinks of when she thinks of guns and whatnot. and they're the actual people in her neighborhood that cause gun violence.

Keep watching. It really is a neutral stance, but logic prevails over Pia and while she isn't "born again" she understands where responsible gun owners come from.

Part of putting her in the "sticks" is because a lot of the people in area's like hers see gun owners as just that, Redneck hill billies that can't form a complete sentence and they all carry their arsenal around with them everywhere.
It helped break down her stereotype. He may look like a redneck, but he lives there because it's a slower life and people do things here completely different from "The Big City" He was articulate, and not condisending, like a good number of gun store clerks can be.
I think the biggest kick to her position was when she talked to the guy that had to shoot an intruder. If it can happen in the middle of Ohio, it can happen anywhere. And his story showed that he stopped a murdering mad man that would have continued until someone stopped him.

My only regret is that the gun enthusiast didn't have a pool so we could see Pia in a swimsuit.

I liked the fact that she was wearing camo.

I couldn't watch it, the woman in the beginning hit far too close to home, reminding me of me many years ago.

I'll grit my teeth, toss back a few and watch it tonight.

I...acquired...the show through other means and watched it the other night.

I really do agree that she should have been placed with a family in a bigger city with good and bad parts of town, just like Boston. That way, it's more of the same environment. If it was a family that used/respected guns and still lived "normal" lives, I think it would not have been as much of a shock. The way they set up the show is like a one-way Wife Swap episode, where you take two completely opposite viewpoints and sit back and watch the fireworks.

I think it was mainly neutral, but did sway more to the gun control advocates.

Is there any laws that COULD be enacted that we could live with? If we give ground on something, will they stop there? Will we just be making the first step to a No Gun country?

These questions remain unanswered. I have no good answer for them.

A red flag that came up for me was when the subject of NICS came up. They showed the person filling out a paperwork, and Pia remarked that she thought it was wrong that you can answer these questions based on the "honor system". It was never revealed that the whole deal is submitted to the FBI for an instant check, thus the viewing public is left with the false impression that it's all up to the buyer's "honesty" to answer the questions.

Yes, I think one rule we can all agree on, no nukes for individuals...

Though if you have the money you could buy yourself a sub to launch them from!

But the whole show is about stereotypes. Somone watching this show would find it hard to believe that there are actually responsible gun owners in Brockton Mass. I was one, I know several. Most people in Brockton that I knew owned guns, it was considered essential to survival. All in all I don't recommend the place though, It's the worse place imaginable to raise kids.

The only thing lacking was comment that gun laws and restrictions already exist. They talk as if there are no gun laws in existence, when in fact there are thousands.

They do mention the fact that a criminals are going to get guns someway, that is hardly going to stop.

I liked the country setting and the comment that Pia made about 'why would anyone need a gun way out here?'

I was waiting for the son to tell his dad about the pistol club and rifle competitions at the college.

I think it was a good show, no real extremist attitudes were aired, it's hard to tell what went on off camera though, never thought ant's would be as calm as they showed.
