I don't remember in class but is it illegal to carry cancealed in a gun store. I need to make a stop by Carter's Country this afternoon to pick up a few things.

It's only illegal if it's properly posted. I've never seen one that was, and probably wouldn't do business there if I saw one.

It is legal to carry in a gun store unless it is 30.06 posted. I have been in Carter's Country in Sugar Land and it wasn't posted. I think I was there about a year ago.

I haven't seen one locally that's posted. The one I was in yesterday had employees open carrying, no posting, but they had a sign that said "hands must be visible at all times". I thought that was funny.

Cabela's is not a pure "gun store", but they have a sign posted in the Buda store to the effect "Firearms brought into the store for sale or repair must be unloaded with the action open. This notice does NOT (empasis mine) apply concealed handguns carried by Concealed Handgun License holders"

There's a shop here in Amarillo, they're even listed with www.galleryofguns.com, and they have 2 signs that prohibit concealed handguns in their shop. Neither is a proper sign though. I'll try and get a picture today. I pulled up into the parking lot and saw the signs and was like "what the???". They were already closed so I didn't get a chance to go in.

I've never seen a 30.06 at a gun store. In fact, most of the 'gun-buster/no loaded weopons' signs I've seen clearly state "CHL holders exempted"

Most gun stores I have patronized have the 'No Loaded Weapons' sign out front. These are for the 'non-licensed' crowd. Most stores don't mind you carrying, as long as you keep it concealed.

A good example is the Bullet Trap in Plano. They have the 'No Loaded Guns' sign, but you can carry there. If you want to use the range and shoot your carry weapon, you un-holster ONLY AT THE LINE(once,) then re-holster and conceal before leaving the line.

Thanks everyone very much. I was in Carter's country as well as several other gun shops over the weekend and none had a 30.06.

Same sign almost verbatim at my local Gander Mountain. And that's the way I think they should do it! ;-)
