Gun grease recommendations

So I've noticed since I started carrying that my P229 rails get dry fairly quickly, and I'm thinking of switching from my regular oil to a grease, since I like my Sigs to run wet (and they seem to like running wet too). Any recommendations? From other posts I've seen people using Mil-Comm TW25B grease, any others that might be good?

I started using Wilson Combat's Ultima-Lube pistol grease with pretty good results on all of my semi autos' rails and slides. It is thick enough to stay in place so it doesn't run out and stain things. A very little goes a long way; and it manfully withstands 200-300 rounds at a time in the middle of the North Texas July sun on a 100º day without any jamming or anything. It would probably last more rounds than that, but that's all the sun I can take - particularly when I'm shooting more than one pistol on the same day. When I strip and clean the guns after the range session, most of the grease is still right there and not looking too bad.

Anyway, It's the best product like it that I've tried yet, and I'll keep using it until something better comes along. There may be others out there that are as good or better, but this is one I know about.

Of course that $5.95 might put a massive dent in the monthly budget.

Grease and oil. Good stuff.

I can vouch for all 3 products from personal experience - Wilson's Ultima Gun Lube, TW25, and Militec. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I'm currently using Wilson's Ultima for the slide rails and Brownell's Friction Defense for light oil applications (barrel interface with slide, locking lugs, triggers, etc.). I average 300 - 600 rounds a month from a variety of hadnguns. I'm getting great performance and have had no issues whatsoever.

I use both Wilson combat Ultima Lube Grease and Oil, where appropriate.

I like Tetra grease, but at 4 or 5$/oz, it's too expensive. Instead I got a tube (grease gun sized...) of Mystik JT-6 marine grade multi-purpose grease. I have seen it recommended on other posts elsewhere, so I figured for $2.18/14oz I would be set for my lifetime most likely!

Gun Butter

If they can take a NIB Springfield and pump 1000 rounds thru it non-stop without malfunction pretty much does it for me!

We're pretty close on this. I got the grease gun cartridge of Mystik high temp. Since I only lube my rotation of guns up, about twice a month, I figure it will only last me ten years. :smilelol5:
I partitioned some of it up in small plastic containers, to go in different range bags and cleaning kits.

Oh yeah, I like it just fine.

I'm almost embarassed to admit to what I use. Lithium white grease. Cheap but it not only seems to work well but stays where its put. I use it pretty sparingly. I have a 12 ounce tup thats probably over 2o years old. Its still more than half full.

Works on brake parts too.

TW25B works well and is realtively clean for carry. Best stuff I've ever used for long term use is Slide-Glide Lite (www.brianenos.com) You could go a whole season of IDPA and never clean your gun ans be lubed just fine. Problem I find is it is not as clean a lube as I'd like for a carry gun. If you decide to try it buy th smallest size, a little goes a long way.

I have used the Wilson, Tetra and Militec lubes and they're fine but very expensive. For the last 2 years I have only been using one lube.

1) Mobil 1 5W20 motor oil

Rails, barrel, and even inside the bore and chamber(s). The mobil 1 doesn't come off, it doesn't attract dirt and it won't burn away. At $5 a quart, it's a real bargain.

:iagree: +1 on Mobil 1 - - - 5w40 Mobil 1 motorcycle oil is supposed to be the best of the best.

Once you put the label gun on an item its costs goes up 5X. Automobile lubrication is one of the most demanding and researched applications there is. If an oil can survive what happens in a modern automobile engine it should do just fine on a gun. That being said I am a little nervous about experimenting with lubricants and plastics that are on so many guns.
