What determines the trigger weight and travel on a 1911 pistol?

I was doing trigger drills with my Kimber Ultra Carry last night and noticed some creep in the trigger. Also, I would like to try some different weights to see what feels the best.

Oh boy... Not a simple question. Unfortunately, there's not a screw that you can tighten or loosen to get what you want. There are multiple parts, springs and mating surfaces involved.
