First 30.06 of any kind (valid or not) I've seen since starting the application process almost exactly a year ago . (The CHL finally arrived in Nov.) It is on the building where Texas Diabetes and Endocrinology has offices at 6500 Balcones Dr, bldg III, in Austin. I have entered it into texas3006.com.

The sign is not even close to the exact text in 30.06 , nor does it include the Spanish text. It says something like (not an exact quote) - Per Texas PC 30.06, no person may enter this building with a handgun. The letters are 1" high or higher. _NOTE_ the sign is at the entrance to the building, lower left of the doors, not the door of Texas Diabetes offices inside. I did not check to see if any other businesses have office in that building. I also did not check if the notice is on the other two buildings (I and II) in the same complex.

Unfortunately, because I went straight from my office and work forbids weapons, I was not carrying. I need to work out a good procedure for leaving it in the car when I get to work then putting it back on when leaving.

I haven't been to that office, and I doubt I will have reason to go in the future, but thanks for the info and for adding it to the DB.

Hi, austin-tatious, I don't know if this will work for you or not, but I had a "Gun Vault" safe bolted under my back seat right in the middle where it is easy for me to reach from the front drivers side. I drive a Chevy SLilverado EXT. and the middle of my front seat folds down and I can reach back and open the safe.

When I go some where that is posted I can just put my carry firearm in the safe and then not worry about it while I am gone. You can not see the Gun Vault from the outside of the truck. Besides I have an alarm on my truck, also, that way, hopefully, if anyone did brake into it they would not have a lot of time to mess around. The safe is bolted from underneath the truck and it would be pretty hard to get into. I had thought about buying one of those safes that has a cable on it so you can lock it under the seat, but decided this would be safer.

Anyway, maybe that will help you get and idea for what you are looking for.

I much appreciate the ideas. The problem I have is my commute car (when it's not raining) - a '66 cherry mustang convertible. I have a couple or three modifications to keep someone from hot wiring it and driving it off, but it's pointless to lock it. Way too easy to enter when locked with a pocket knife or similar tool. The only option I have is the trunk where I can double lock it. But that increases the risk someone will notice. I'm getting to the point, however, where the inconvenience of going to the top floor of the garage (where very few park) is worth it. Then I should only have to contend with the occasional security guard sitting in his golf cart to kill time. The garage IS public access and not posted.

You certainly have some challenges to address, and you are very lucky to have a great audience to voice these concerns of yours to people who definetly understand your plight...

All is not lost...And to balance that nothing is fool-proof either...

I recommend you look into getting at least something to slow down the average smash and grabber...And most of these small safes you can put in your vehicle will work to do that...

I have a co-worker who is waiting on receiving his initial license to carry in Texas and he recently asked me what I thought about carrying in a vehicle till he gets his license...Well we all know what the law says in that regard, and he has taken that advice to heart...He also asked me about a "gunsafe" or way to secure the handgun while outside the vehicle for obvious reasons, and we have had this same conversation...

He has on order, and will be receiving two (2) "Secure-It" (keyed-alike) safes before the end of the week...If he had ordered something else that would have worked as well...But like I said, at least its something...And that is what matters...

As for the bang for your buck...I just don't see anything else out there that can deliver the kind of security and flexibility that these devices offer...

I also believe we should not allow our RKBA's to become a chore or burden that others in our lives can exploit to the point where we compramise our core beliefs...This is one of those issues that everyone needs to have some support on, to encourage us to not allow it to become a "chore" or "burden"...Or we lose...

The more we carry, the more it becomes second nature to our everyday routine...And you'll find personal ways to overcome any bumps in your routine, by carrying at every opportunity, and securing the firearm whenever you encounter legal obstacles that we are compelled by law to comply with to remain law-abiding citizens...

You are in a great community of patriots and knowledgable, passionate gunowners who really care to support each other no matter what the issue is...

Hi, austin, I see what you mean... you do have a problem, huh?
Your idea about using the trunk is about the only thing I can see that you could do, also. However, that presents the problem of switching the gun back and forth....with wandering eyes around. There are many that do use the trunk and secure the vault from underneath the vehicle, that way if they did mange to open the trunk they can't just pick it up and run. I hope something will work out for you and I am sure you will find something. There are always many different ways to solve a problem and everyone here is ready to help in anyway we can.

But, wow! that is quite a nice commute car! Very nice. My truck is red, too...the Corvette Red. I don't know what they call it, but it shore do shine!
