problems getting my 1911 back together

after loosing the plungers and spring from my 1911 i replaced them and am trying to get it back together but for some reason i cant get the hammer to work right.
when im putting it together the hammer wont lock it just falls back to its resting position



WHAT AM I DOING WRONG :cryin

This is a very general answer, but the sear spring (the "leaf spring") is probably improperly installed. I live in Friendswood so you can come by my home tonight and I can check it for you. Let me know if you want to do that.

When I first got my 1911, I put it together wrong too. Springfield did not enclose very good directions. It gave more directions on how not to shoot someone accidentally than taking it apart and cleaning it.

Take Charles up on his offer if you aren't too far from him.

I now have the hammer where it will lock but when i pull the trigger it will not fall
i cant win for loosing

i didnt get anything with mine
i will be off to see Mr Cotton this evening as he lives in the same city as me :banghead:
i really thought this would not be this hard

That was the problem I had with mine. I didn't realize the spring could be installed backward. I know now.

I had a problem when i started on 1911's of trying to put one of the leaves under something. Finally got it thru my thick head it just lays on top. FYI, when just removing the MSH for some reason, rubber band the grip safety first, saves a lot of swearing.
