Texas Public Radio (Texas Matters show) out of San Antonio interviewed the originator of the Open Carry Petition this morning. He mentioned three things that made me go "huh?"

1. It's a crime if you let your concealed handgun become exposed for even a second or even if someone can tell through your clothing that you have a gun underneath it.
2. You can have your license revoked for five years just for that.
3. He mentioned a recent case in San Marcos in a bank where the wind blew someones shirt up, the gun was exposed, the police were called, he was taken down on the ground, chaos ensured. Anyone know of this?

-2. Again, if it's intentionally, and I didn't think it was five years but I'm doing this in as a hurry as I have to take off to Houston in about five minutes so I don't have time to check.
-3. He also stated that this happens quite frequently, and this is a reason that open carry should be allowed, so that there's no crime if it's exposed.

I would certainly hope that these mistakes were made out of ignorance, and not intentionally. Many people will not take the time to research these matters for themselves, and will simply take the word of a figure 'in the spotlight', so to speak.

If they were made in ignorance, it seems that they need to do a little research.

Sounds like an "exaggeration." The story doesn't say he was arrested or thrown to the ground.

San Marcos — Next time you ponder how much San Marcos has grown, here’s something to help keep in context it’s still a small town.

Since late last week, there’s been a buzz through the community about a robbery at Bank of America. But it didn’t happen, says Police Chief Howard Williams.

Williams said someone called to report a man had been seen walking into the bank with a gun in the back of his pants. While it was true the man had a gun, he also held a concealed handgun permit, Williams said.

But the man had arrived at the bank on a motorcycle, and Williams said his clothing had been blown, exposing the handgun he thought was hidden.

“There was no crime. He was just going in the bank to go about his business,” Williams said.

Nonetheless, the buzz went on. “A lot of people were jumping to conclusions. Word got out all around town,” Williams said.

That certainly doesn't sound chaotic, and it makes no mention of the fellow being 'taken down'.

Just another reason to check your six, or five or four.... wherever you carry to make sure your cover hasn't ridden up. While technically it doesn't break the law and these guys were cool about it, others may not be as understanding and may try to push the intentional FTC side.
