Open Carry statement gone awry? Not sure what the guys mental state was at the time, but that incident is not really THAT scary....at least to me. To the Sheeple....maybe, but a guy with a holstered gun, a knife, and a bat (he was in close proximity to sports fields) wouldn't send me runnin. He actually sounds like some people that i call friends

I've been to Mass there. I wonder if he actually went on the portion of the grounds for the school vs the main parking lot?

Well, then I guess I'm numbered with the Sheeple. This complete idiot may have done far more damage than appears at first blush. Just when the media is focusing on concealed carry on campus and the north Texas school district allowing teachers and staff to be armed, this idiot gives the opposition something to point at. Yes, he's a nut and he's probably not a CHL, but this is publicity we absolutely don't need! Passing campus carry will be very difficult and we don't need this loon making the job harder.

I'm not at all sure about whether he violated TPC §46.03(a)(1) by having a gun on "school grounds" since the report doesn't make it clear whether there was a school sponsored activity going on. My guess is there was, but it's not absolutely clear from the report. (He wasn't in a building, so he wasn't on the "premises" as it is statutorily defined.) If he isn't a CHL, and I pray he isn't, then he violated TPC §46.02. If he is a CHL, then he violated TPC §46.035(a) by intentionally failing to conceal his handgun. This is precisely the horrible fact-pattern that the U.S. Attorney may want to take to trial on the federal gun-free school zone. This is a potential publicity disaster for our side.

I agree...he was probably a nut....but maybe not. There surely is more to it than the media leads us to believe...who knows. For the sake of conversation.... He was apparently there very early (obviously a school activity was going on, but a due notice argument could be made considering the time), there are 2 baseball fields there, and who knows whether he "brazenly" displayed a weapon, or if he simply had on a OWB rig and got made. I dunno, all I know is seems way to early to assume he was a nutcase. As for the comments to the "Cross Country Team" parent....That could be out of context, again who knows. In addition the article mentioned a daggar, not sure if that was what he had, or an improper choice of words. I am eager to see where this goes. Maybe the Open Carry Opponents have sunken to new lows and deliberatly thew a proverbial "wrench in the gears"....LOL

As for being a negative influence to the current political scene in regard to weapons laws.....He was absolutly that!

Here is the story that I can find. To me it seems that he had the weapon uncovered.
I hope that this does not hurt our side to much when it comes to school carry, but I know that it in no ways helps us. I just hope that he does not have a CHL.

Officials at St. Matthew's School sent letters home with students concerning the incident. School officials said they've also posted Sarabia's picture, so everyone will know if he ever tries to get back on campus.

News 4 found out Sarabia doesn't have a criminal record.

Police don't know why he showed up at the school.

I agree he is the poster child for the other side. Apparently when asked why he was carrying, he said, "for the sport"....after threatening the police with a bat, he was tazed. After he was tazed, he then pulled his gun at which time he was tazed again. Police found his car which apparently had more knives, empty ammo boxes for 'high power' rifles and GET THIS... survivalist literature and militia type brochures or something to that affect.....sigh once again.

We are going to hurt on this one.

I am really really really tired of of being associated with nutjobs.

When a nutjob drives a car into a crowd there is no scream to keep nutjobs out of cars or to ban cars so no law abiding person can own a car. Well, except maybe in the UK.

If some nutjob cuts someone with a butcher knife there is no scream to keep nutjobs from owning knives or to ban knives so no law abiding person can own a knife. Well, except maybe in the UK.

How do you convince the sheeple that nutjobs are going to do nutjob things and that it is not a reflection on us?

Chas., you're not usually a "glass half empty" kind of guy, so I hope you'll realize that this guy proves yet again how ineffective laws are at keeping illegally carried guns off campus, and this is why law-abiding citizens should be able to defend themselves on campus!

update on story - mixed in with details of the Boerne plot. No mention if he had a CHL, I would think that check would be run today??
