Change of Zip Code - NOT MOVING

The USPS has decided to split out my current zip code into three differnent ones and I have one of the new ones.

I just renewed my DL and was told that this "constitutes a change of address."

Any idea if this means that I need to contact DPS and change my address?

Since DPS administers both the DL and the CHL programs, it would be conservative to assume they would view it as a change of address for the CHL, too.

Of course, I don't work for DPS, so the safest course of action would be to call or email them and ask. There should be a "Contact Us" link on the DPS homepage.

My parents zip code was changed in the 70s, the last digit from a 5 to an 8.

To this day, if the old zip code is used, it is still delivered to my parents house.

...for what it is worth...

Okay, I called.

I have to send a copy of the letter that I received from the USPS and a completed form CRC 70 (Change of Address). They will waive the fees. :anamatedbanana

Nice of them to waive the fees, since you aren't really moving. I could really see the DPS sticking to their guns on the change of address fee since it is a change of address, even though not a change of location. It's nice to know there are still people with common sense at the CHL office in Austin. :txflag:
