AR15 break-in

I recently bought a DPMS with a 16" H-bar. The manual recommends cleaning the barrel after EACH shot for the first 25 rounds and then after each (I think) 25 rounds for the next 100. Is that for real or are they over emphasizing in order to get people to clean more often? Thanks for any assistance.

Just go out and shoot it. Other than being sure that the bolt carrier is well lubed, you can begin to think about cleaning it after the first several hundred rounds.

16" HBAR? Normally HBAR is a target barrel, and 16" is pretty short for target work. But anyhoo... what you've described is pretty standard break-in for a target rifle. It's pointless for anyone who isn't engaged in precision benchrest work.

Thanks for the info. It's just a plinker so I won't stick to the full break-in regimen. I wasn't looking for a Hbar, but the price was right.
