Boy Scouting Events

Hey all,
There is a camping event with my son at Camp Wisdom (near Dallas) coming up. I read the statements in the Scouting national rule book as Police only.

It just shocked me, I'm just checking to see if there is some exception for CHL I am not reading.

The always be prepared motto just does not wash.

Thoughts?

Is Camp Wisdom posted with a 30.06 sign? Therein lies your answer.

I have never seen a BSA camp posted, and the BSA book is not 30.06 complient

having said that, I lock mine up at BSA events, but do have it on me on the road to and from.

I would venture a guess that it is to prevent backlash if there were an accidental shooting/discharge. Not everyone's kids are taught about gun safety, and I could see a situation where a kid picks up (finds) an unattended firearm and injures/kill himself/someone else. Let's face it, living in a tent you have much fewer options of where you can store your firearm. I think the Boy Scouts want to have their public policy on the (perceived) safe side of the issue.

Edit: as posted above, lock up your weapon at the event and all should be well!

As a Cub Scout Den Leader, I carry until I arrive on site and then lock it up. I don't feel that I can participate in Boy Scouts as a leader while violating one of their rules, even if it is a rule with which I passionately disagree. I carry everywhere allowed by law except Scouting events.

I have been active in the Boy Scouts my whole life. Right now I am a ScoutMaster in a area that is notorious for crime and gang activity. I always carry my gun when I go to meetings. In fact I have come very very close to having to draw my weapon a couple of times. But you have to understand I do work in the projects and the reason the Boy Scouts pay me is because no one wants to work with these boys because of the enviroment they are in. Also note that I am a Security Threat Group Officer for TDCJ, so I deal with gang activity all day everyday.
