The following Article from the Austin Statesman again shows why we have a CHL, should also remind us that your assailant does not always have to be a man, and should remind us to be constantly vigilant:

"Man shot in Southeast Austin

A man was shot during an attempted robbery in Southeast Austin late Friday evening.

Austin Police Department spokesman Det. James Mason said a man and a woman were walking in the 2200 block of Willow Creek Drive when a female suspect with a gun demanded the other woman’s purse. The man struggled with the female suspect and was shot, Mason said. The woman who fired the shots fled the scene in a car with another man, he said.

The male victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to University Medical Center at Brackenridge. His condition is unknown."

That is a good example of why situational awareness (condition yellow) is so vital in surviving an attack. We do not know what our attacker will look like...he/she certainly will not look like what we may think.

There was a piece in the local paper (Abilene) a couple of days ago under "Police Blotter." A man was walking down the street and a woman pulled up in a car, got out, and knocked him in the head and drove off with his wallet! They didn't give any more details.

You just never know who, when, or where the attack will come from...be ready!

I agree. it seems much more commonplace now-a-days that a "lady" carries out the attack, too.

I find myself wanting to typically look away from an approaching woman, soas my gf/date/so/potential mate doesn't bash me in the head for "checking out" other girls

case and point. went to the range once upon a time. there was a couple in the stall next to us shooting, and at that particular moment the lady was shooting. My GirlFriend (at the time) and I were taking a moment to discuss our shooting so we were back behind the firing line talking, when the lady next door has a piece of brass ricochet off the lane divider and leap down her blouse. She then commenced the "pee-pee" dance while trying to retrieve the offending brass.
I made a concerted effort to look away, soas not to be observed looking at someone reaching down their shirt (I'm old fashioned that way ).
well, my gf not being so shy watched this gal as she pointed her handgun directly at us while attempting to find the Brass of Death hiding in her nether-wears. Since my gf had been paying attention, she was able to bring the "muzzle" issue to the person's attention (and also her husband, who grabbed the gun out of her hand) and we all avoided a potential tragedy.

made me rethink my "being gentlemanly" ways. (I still open the door for gals, though)
