NEW ORLEANS (AP) - City officials in New Orleans have agreed to return hundreds of firearms that were confiscated in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

It's part of a deal to resolve a lawsuit by gun lobbying groups.

Police say they have 552 guns that were confiscated after katrina. They say most of them had been stolen or found in abandoned homes. But the NRA claims police disarmed some people who were trying to flee the city.
Wouldn't that be looting or at least theft? :rules:

I bet that, as part of the agreement, New Orleans gets to admit no wrong-doing.

Question for me now is what is the condition of these firearms NOW as compared to when they were confiscated?
I consider it highly likely that what is coming back is largely junk, suitable for the recycle bin as a result of being
intentionally not taken care of while in NOPD custody. "Oops, sorry, our storage area was not sealed and your
$1000 weapon is ruined. Hmmmm, it must have been under some others, sorry your bluing is all gone and the
stocks are all dented and scratched.....but here it is, returned to you just like we said we would."
