An armored truck guard was shot this afternoon during an armed robbery in west Oak Cliff.
The guard was in good condition at Methodist Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
Investigators did not say how much money was taken.
The robbery occurred about 12:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of West Illinois Avenue.
One witness said he was walking along Illinois when the robbers approached the truck. They emerged from behind a dumpster directly behind the 24-hour check-cashing business where the armored truck was making a pickup.
“I seen them run up towards the truck,” said Generian Fields, 19. “I thought it looked suspicious.”
Seconds later, he heard two bursts of gunfire, possibly five or six shots in all.
Police said there were four robbers. All were wearing ski masks, gray sweatshirts, and black pants. They fled in what was described as a red Pontiac Grand Am with tinted windows, a sunroof and a rear spoiler. The car had no front license plate, police said.
A gun was recovered at the scene, but it was not immediately clear whether it was related to the robbery.
The FBI was called in to the investigation.
