I took my wife shopping for her carry gun. I knew better than to choose one for her. To make a long story short, I had envisioned her choosing something on the order of the Ruger LCP, etc. Thankfully, the salesman suggested that she try the trigger pulls on various pistols. She had trouble, time after time. We had fifteen guns out on the counter before she found one that she could actually pull the trigger without any problems. She finally decided on a Glock 26 (dealer also rents guns, so we tried one before she bought it). She suffers from RA but I would have never thought about trigger pull weight giving her a problem. Has anyone else encountered this?

I have never experienced this or know someone who has. However, if DA trigger pulls are an issue, have you thought about a SA Pistol as those triggers are easier to manipulate. Obviously, there are some other things to concern yourself with but at least she would be able to use it easier, if needed.

That gun is her baby, now. lol I would not dream of trying to get her to switch. She likes the way it handles and can tear up the X at 15yds. She also has a problem with not being able to lock her elbows (found this out qualifying), but the 26 has not given her any problems.

A revolver was never on her list. She wants to carry what she qualified with.

I am sorry, I meant the difference between Double Action and Single Action Semi-Auto's. Anywho, glad she found something she can use. If the glock DA trigger pull ever becomes an issue try a SA trigger pull. There is a world of difference.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I got lost on the SA/Semi-Auto. What would you recommend just in case we need to look into it?

That, I am not sure. I haven't had any experience with strictly Single Action Handguns. I work with a Beretta 92 (Both DA/SA) and the Single action is a lot easier to pull. Most or all 1911's are single action handguns (not 100%). There are all kinds (I heard Springfield Armory makes a descent one). There are loads more. Personally I carry a Springfield Armory XD9, which is DA only like the glock.

Um, someone with more experience with SA handguns, Chime in anytime, Please!!!!

I am not a Glock fan but I doubt that you find a gun easier to manipulate then it with the exception of the S&W M&P series.

I think she made a great choice.

I dont have any experience with Glock, just DA/SA in general and the noticeable difference in the two. Anything she is comfortable with is most definitly a good choice!!

Sorry to put you on the spot! I have a SigP220. But anything bigger than a 9mm would be too much umphh, for her. Also have a S&W mod66 .357, again too much umphh. The Glock is supposed to be a DA only, but I would consider it more of a cross between a DA and a SA(stays half cocked). I think the trigger pull is about 4.5lbs which is about the pull of my SIG in SA. I am sure someone on here will correct me, JMO!

Yes, I have seen several people with either hand strength issues or burdened by RA. That is part of the reason I suggested "there is no perfect grip" in another thread.

Another consideration (equally important IMO) is that she be able to manipulate the slide by herself. Yeah, I know....someone is going to assert that Glocks never jam...but I have witnessed it more than once.

The Glock is an excellent choice... and as long as she can work the slide and pull the trigger, it should serve her well.

If for any reason she needs/wants to change weapons in the future....just remember: Trigger pull isn't the ONLY consideration.

Glad to hear she found something that will work for her. I especially like to see the women folk armed.

Thanks guys. I am tickled to death that she wanted to get her CHL in the first place. Dang good thing that I can still out shoot her or I would never hear the end of it flintknapper I see you are in Deep East Texas, how deep?

Grew up in Austin though, so I am familar with your "neck of the woods".

My wife cannot shoot an entire magazine in my Sigma before her hand gets too tired to pull the trigger. She's about 6' tall, 135 lb, young and pretty strong, no arthritis or other health issues. I can't imagine what she will do when she tries a DAO revolver with about 2x the trigger weight of my Sigma.

A Ruger LCP has a real long trigger pull with an unpredictable break IME. Same with a Kel-Tec P32. I have not tried a P3AT but I bet it is similar.

flintknapper, I graduated from SFA, worked in Lufkin for several years. Wife is from Cherokee Co. So I am familiar with your neck of the woods, too

She does have some trouble with the slide, but the first shot shouldn't be a problem. She has ran 100 rounds through the glock, but many more to go.
