Hunting Hogs with a handgun

Some of Yall may have seen that I have a .44 magnum for sale in the firearms section. Doesnt seem to be many folks interested, and it wouldnt break my heart to keep it, so I am thinking that if it doesnt sell, I'll put a red dot sight on it and try my hand at hog hunting with it. I looked around, but cant seem to figure out if there is a way to remove the rear sights and replace them with a rail to mount the sight. Has anyone here attempted to do something like that? its an Airweight model SW 329PD, so the sight would need to stand up to the extreme recoil of the .44 mag. Ive seen it done with handguns that had longer and heavier barrels, but not on any lightweight models. Im tending to think that it wouldnt work, but Ive been wrong before believe it or not.

I am not sure you will find an optical mount for that .44 mag but I have been wrong before.
I have shot hogs with a single action .44 mag with success. I had a friend in the Navy from Talahassee that hunted wild hogs with a single action .22. He had the scars on his legs from several tusk wounds. He liked to shoot them in the ear at point blank range while his pit bull hog dog kept them at bay.
Just don't track wounded ones into the tall grass. Snap shots at charging wounded sows are not conducive to hunter longevity.

I've shot hogs at point blank range with a 45 and it hurt them but they still ran away. Just another data point.

I just used iron sights.

My Model 29 is very accurate with the factory iron sights. I would feel reasonably comfortable hunting with them at the distances at which I might be likely to use a handgun.

Before messing with the scope setup, I'd check to see if Crimson Trace makes a laser grip for that model. Legal on feral hogs (often in lousy light) but not for "game" animals.

I just use iron sights as well on my Ruger .44 Mag though I did change them to the gold dot front with v-rear. That 329, at least the PD, has a fiber front sight plus v-rear if I recall and should be fine for hogs.

All this talk of .44 Magnums and hogs... pfffft, all you need is a .177 air rifle!

Here in East Texas, an RPG would not be undergunned, as I reported in a different forum...
