A company called COP, Inc. (which doesn't seem to exist now) made a small 4-barrel .357 Magnum derringer.

I am not associated with Collectors Firearms in any way. I just thought this item was interesting.

That looks pretty cool, however I imagine that the recoil is a little stout!

I would think so; but this sort of thing is a last resort, not a plinker.

I remember seeing this on Battlestar Galactica last season. Romo Lampkin tries to assassinate President Adama with it right after the Quorum elects him to office. I also remember thinking at the time that it would be cool if that were actually a real gun. Happy day!!

Well, you can own one for only $495, and you can let me shoot it as a small favor. ;-)

I don't know how negotiable Collectors Firearms is. I suspect not much on a rare item.

They used to be a very popular backup gun for police officers, back when we all carried revolvers. Flat enough to be fairly easily hidden and used the same ammo as the duty gun. I never fired one, but I knew quite a few SAPD officers who had them.

I've fired one. With 38spl it's not too bad. With 357mag duty ammo, it's a monster. Definitely not something you'd want to shoot much.

I'm guessing it fires one round at a time in some sequence?

Yeah. Here's a YouTube video of someone shooting one:

Interesting.

It's just as big as a Kahr PM9/40, probably nearly as big as a P9 or a Kel-Tec PF9. Kinda think I'd rather have 8 shots of 9mm vs. 4 shots of .357 available.

Looks like kind of a novelty to me.

From what I can find on the web, this derringer was manufactured in the 1970s. Compact pistols like the Kahr, Kel-Tec, and Bersa in 9 mm did not arrive until the 1990s. I guess it was the best they could do at the time, like the four-function electronic calculators that cost $500.

Am I really the first one to point out that this gun was featured in "Blade Runner"?? The gun normal fires one barrel per trigger pull, but in the movie it was modified to fire all four at the same time.

One of these sold on The Firing Line about two weeks ago for $400.
