Display of firearms

It's probably been answered. I Searched it but didn't find anything, sorry if it's a repost.
This is not a handgun "open carry" question, I think I know the answer to that in Texas. Only if your a peace officer on duty of your on your own property or hunting, something to that effect.
Back in the day (the 80's) I lived out in the country. I had a gun rack mounted in the back window of my pickup truck and kept a lever action 30/30 and a semi-auto .22 rifle there. I don't see that anymore, is it still legal in Texas (not a question of intelligence, just legal)?

Still legal, but a very good way to get your window smashed.

Yep, you can open carry long guns.

Maybe if we started totin' shootguns in the racks on trips where we were not leaving them unattended and the sheeple saw more of them it might be a good thing.
I have a gun rack in the garage I have not put in the ol' Super Duty that would look great with a evil black shotgun in it.

It still happens in the little country towns far from the Big Cities where the city slicker have not taken over yet.
You get out there and a Lever gun and Shotgun are still everyday "Tools of the Trade"

I've spent the majority of my life in the Houston area, and it seems that in the '60s and 70's trucks with gun racks (with a long gun on display) were ubiquitous. I guess they slowly disappeared because of the potential of a smash and grab, as previously mentioned.
Too bad in a way. Perhaps a more open display of weapons would lead to more familiarity with seeing them, which would put more people at ease being around them. This thought is of course for those who have an averse reaction to guns.

Even thought open carry long guns are legal I'm sure if you did something like walk down the street with your AR strapped around your back you would get charged with some other trumped up charges like trying to incite a riot or what ever else they can come up with.
These charges of course being brought up after you're handcuffed by authorities after some soccer mom seeing this calls 911 to report a maniac with an assault rifle.

The charge would be disorderly conduct, and they would drop it after letting you sit in a cell for a couple of hours with guys who stink and have cooties while they checked you for warrants.
