My wife is finally getting into shooting. What are your recommendations on an semi-auto. She has a little less than medium hands. She likes the 9mm but I just can't seem to fine something that fits her. I want to be the good husband and suprise her with a new gun. Then if it turns out she don't like shooting I will have me another gun. lol

Mine tried a number of smaller 9mm's before she settled on the KAHR.
In polymer it is slightly lighter than my G26, and has smaller grip.
With full power loads the recoil is kinda snappy, so she will need to
practice with it. Also found that this one at least does not like reloads
much. Anything else seems to shoot fine.

My wife picked by herself a Taurus PT 24/7 in 9mm...
I believe the grip really sold her on the idea...
They are priced in a range I think is pretty good...She walked out of the gunshow with one, new in the box, for $357.00
I think the quality is very good...
I've only been allowed

to shoot one magazine (17 rounds) through it, so I only have that to gauge its performance...And I really didn't have a problem with it...
Its easy to maintain...
The only problem I have with it is that its hard to find holsters for it...I'm sure there are some out there, but the generic ones will work for the time being till someone figures out that there is a market for them, hopefully soon...

Sig has a 229 that is great for the ladies hands. (My Mother & Wife) All of the above are also quality guns that have lady friendly grips. What it all boils down to is what feels good in the hands of the shooter. She really needs to hold one. For surprise you might try what I did once. Wrapped a box w/ a toy inside & a note that said trade this for the real thing & I pay. That "surprised" her as much as the real thing & she still got to pick it out.

LT,
I believe you are referring to the P239. The P225, when you can find
them, is another model nicely sized for smaller hands. The P229 is a bit
of a handful, at least for my wife and girls.
Kind Regards,
Tom

My fav. 9mm is my CZ-75B with Hogue grips. I've got smallish hands, & this one fits me well enough that I can also shoot weak-hand, unsupported.
Personally I don't like a gun that's "too light" for the caliber. My wrists aren't very strong & I want the weight of the pistol to help me control the recoil.
Visit a gun shop or three and let her "try on" a few. Once you find one with a balance & heft she likes, you can always play with the grips. Yeah, it would be cool to surprise her with the actual pistol, but guns (and how they fit the shooter) are personal enough that it's better to make sure the two will get along before spending the money. And, if she helps pick it out herself she may be more motivated to really learn how to use it and enjoy it.

Quidni is oh, so right! Please do NOT surprise your wife with a gun. The gun has to fit her just right or she will never be happy shooting it. I fell in love with the Glock 19 and it is still my favorite, but that doesn't mean it would work for her. Take her to a gun show and let her try on several until she tells you what she wants. Then she can pick out a nice purse for it, maybe a holster or two... it never ends.

My wife enjoyed my XD9 so much that she fired a perfect score on her CHL requalification, and she has decided it's her gun now.

Greetings--
My g/f shot my G34 a good bit, but had troubles with the grip not fitting her hands all that well. We looked at a number of other brands (read.. shopping... here) and shot a few. She decided on a CZ-75 compact. She likes the 1911 style frame . The smaller grip fit her hand well. Its still a large enough frame that she controls it well when shooting.

I just realized...
"Ladies, I need some help."
I guess I was just getting in touch with my feminine side...

NEVER surprise ANYone with a gun! Much LESS a WOMAN! I'll put my +1 on the
XD 9! My best friend has smallish hands and it's perfect for her. Add the Pachmeyer (sp) grip and I'll bet that she'll shoot it out the wazoo! BUT....let HER choose her OWN pistol!
My hubby has learned that he should never surprise me with pistols...or jewelry! Why? Because we women have our "'druthers." You know, "I 'druther have THAT one!"
Oh, the "stubby" sub-compact would slip into a fanny pack, purse OR (my preference) on the hip...very nicely. Good luck and play it smart!

Have a look at the CZ compacts. The 75 and the P01 are great guns.

My GF has the Bersa 9mm and loves it. It's the compact model and not the high cap. It has always been a reliable shooter for her. It is a little large for her to carry concealed on her person, say in a IWB holster but she likes it just the same.
I think the Bersa is a very underrated weapon. But so was Taurus a few years ago.
Just my opinion.
