Pentagon to deploy 20,000 troops on US soil

The U.S. military expects to have 20,000 uniformed troops inside the United States by 2011 trained to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack or other domestic catastrophe, according to Pentagon officials.

The long-planned shift in the Defense Department's role in homeland security was recently backed with funding and troop commitments after years of prodding by Congress and outside experts, defense analysts said.

There are critics of the change, in the military and among civil liberties groups and libertarians who express concern that the new homeland emphasis threatens to strain the military and possibly undermine the Posse Comitatus Act, a 130-year-old federal law restricting the military's role in domestic law enforcement.

These troops will come in handy when it's time to start gun confiscation.

This plan was formulated under George Bush II. How is this now tied to a president-elect?

On 11Sep01, USAF fighter jets were circling NYC, did any of you object to this deployment of US forces on US soil (or airspace)? 20,000 troops is 400 per state. The membership of this board alone could protect Texas against 400 federal troops charged with a mission of, well at this point it's hard to see why we would need to fret.

Military has been practicing for this mission for quite some time, so put the tinfoil hats away for now boys. Anyone remember how ready Bush supporters were to blame any of his administration problems on the proceeding President, guy named Clinton? Unless Bush walks across the water on the Washington mall upon leaving office, maybe some of you should try to maintain consistent standards of blame. Blame it on Bush is quickly turning into Blame it on Obama, even before he takes office. But hey, Obama is the devil and Bush was the true patriotic populist, right?

Thread drift...Obama sure seems to rapidly be maneuvering toward the middle and rapidly abandoning his far left supporters.

Well, since I started the thread, I guess I should add here that I think this has very little to do with Obama Barack (which is his first name? I can never remember. Hussein is his middle name, I know that much.)

Bush brought us the Patriot Act, REAL ID act and a myriad of other lovely infringements.

Lord BO the most merciful inherits it as his own.

After Jan 20 things change from "It's Bush's fault" to "It's Lord BO the most merciful's fault." What is wrong with this? Is not what is good for the goose also not good for the gander?

If you watch videos of these troops patrolling the streets they are hardened people who do not care about human life one bit. One of the solders was asked, "would you ever fire on unarmed American citizens?" the soldier answered "if it was an order". The soldiers allegiance is no longer to the United States, is for the President, anything the president says goes and thats the bottom line. The Patriot act was put in order for future purposes, so when the time is right, martial law will be declared, guns will be taken away, and resisters will be put in the Fema camps. You guys can laugh at me all you want, with my tin foil jokes and stuff, but this is no laughing matter. Our rights are being taken away one at a time and as a whole "American public" we are completely blind to it.
I question where you saw this video of the US Soldier making the above statement.
sivart-dod wrote:I know I will get lots of bad comments for saying this but, if you look at Nazi Germany right as Hitler was being elected it is a SCARY resemblance to the USA at this very moment. The market is shaky, the people want "change", the Nazi's had their own Patriot act called "The Enabling Act" it gave the EXACT SAME POWERS AS THE PATRIOT ACT. Look it up if you dont believe me.

America learned alot from Hitler. For instance, did you know that cable TV was an Idea of Hitlers to brainwash the masses. HMMMMMMMMMMM????

I try to not say anything about this stuff in this forum, but I couldn't help it this time.
Actually, Hitler learned alot from America too. The US started the Eugenics program back in the 20's or 30's (I believe in Tennesee- never could spell that), and Hitler looked at it specifically as a model for his "solution".

I don't care about who started it.

A great American once said:

"There are instruments so dangerous to the rights of the nation and which place them so totally at the mercy of their governors that those governors, whether legislative or executive, should be restrained from keeping such instruments on foot but in well-defined cases. Such an instrument is a standing army." --Thomas Jefferson to David Humphreys, 1789. ME 7:323

"Nor is it conceived needful or safe that a standing army should be kept up in time of peace for [defense against invasion]." --Thomas Jefferson: 1st Annual Message, 1801. ME 3:334

It is too bad. I think it is very interesting to think about the way that this country is going against the things that our founding fathers envisioned in the age of enlightenment. In many ways - we are currently in the age of de-enlightenment. Instead of looking to the future and making the right, and sometimes hard choices, the public is easily swayed by fancy speeches and emotional pandering. The reason that I say that I don't care who started it is that I see the majority of both sides playing this game. There are very few leaders currently saying what needs to be said, because it is unpopular.

I fear unless we as a country grow deeper in our thoughts and character, we may be in for a fast fall.
