I've been using a thick gun belt for quite some time and while very good at what it's supposed to do, it's thickness is stiff and uncomfortable.

I bought a new gun belt from Simply Rugged that's quite a bit thinner and far more comfortable. It's made from a single billet of steer hide.

After initially receiving it, I was a little concerned that it couldn't do the job well as it's thicker brethren. I was wrong. It does the job admirably and hallelujah, comfortably.

Given that thick gun belts feel as uncomfortable as they do on me with a flat gut, I gotta wonder if my fellow handgun carriers with "dunlops" suffer, but just put up with it, thinking it's a gun belt and has to be thick, stiff and uncomfortable?

Is this the case or are the more medium built guys possibly more prone to this discomfort with thick gun belts while my ah, heartier fellows don't notice such things?

However I suspect that there is no way those wicked stiff belts are not uncomfortable for many people.

I have to admit that I'm a bit confused as to how a belt that is sized properly and fits well would be uncomfortable, regardless of its stiffness. Personally, I have six gun belts of various designs from 4 manufacturers, and find them all as comfortable as any of my regular non-gun belts. I'm of, as you say, medium-build.

You seem to have a pretty low opinion of people you consider part of the "gun culture," based upon this and many other posts. Why then do you keep reading the forum if the information and opinions given are so unreliable? I don't like your insinuation that members are going to lie about this or any other subject.

FWIW I am not suggesting dishonesty as much as a response to a feeling of peer pressure in the gun crowd, particularly among newbies on forums where I have been hanging out.

I have two belts. One is from CompTac <3 and the other is a dress belt.
I can carry with either. The CompTac is better, isn't uncomfortable to me (I'm 6'1", 230).
the dress belt doesn't hold the holster as well, doesn't hold the gun close to my body (without it sticking out to the side), but is comfortable and gets it's job done.

I wear my purpose made gun belt, even when I'm just pocket carrying, because it is more comfortable than any of my other belts. For the record, I don't have Dunlop's Disease. I have Boeing 747 Tire Disease. For that reason, the stiffer gun belt actually keeps my pants up better than other belts, and it is not at all uncomfortable. What I would find uncomfortable would be my pants falling down on stage in church in the middle of playing a song.

Gun belt it is. In fact, the only time I don't wear my gun belt is when I have to put on a suit. Then I'll wear a dress belt. But the only way you'll get me to wear a suit is if you die, or get married.

From the long time carry folks here honest answers & honest experiences are the answers to the young folks & new to carry regardless of their age or time shooting. If the answers were not sound as well as honest this board would have colapsed several yrs ago like many others.

Turth is: the experience, knowkedge, helpful attitude, & high standard of honest character have helped a multitude of young CHLers & those traits will be the foundation for future help. That is what keeps this board strong.

I for one have no need to streach the truth or pad a review. The Mod Staff here are volunteers. There is no pat on the back through the computer so no prestige for embellishment. The long time members are here for the help they have to offer & that is free. If it works for you take it. If not discard it but dont think it offered w/ any other motive than to help.

Simply Rugged is quality gear. I have one of his holsters & sure his belts are as good. I have never had the uncomfortable problem that you describe either. What I find uncomfortable is a saging holster, rocker, or one that slides on a thin belt.

Good you found one that fits your needs & shape.

I purchased a gun belt from Cabelas In fact it was the only plain gun belt they had in stock besides the engraved ones for fast draw.

I will say it most definitely beats the cheap wal-mart belt I was using before.

But I still think that there has to be even a better one than the one from Cabelas.

Any one out there have or tried the Cabelas belt? And if so what are your views of it verses another belt?

I have a Cabela's "gun belt" and it sure beats what I was wearing. It cost $20 or so if I recall correctly. Once my Lehman Bros. bankruptcy claim is settled, I may be able to get a better one.

I wear 1 1/2 inch gun belts from The Wilderness, Maxpedition (Liger) and others. I have a medium build and don't find any of them uncomfortable.

Several years ago I had a belt from The Wilderness with the optional plastic stiffener sewn in between the inner and outer layers. I found that to be a bit uncomfortable for casual wear without a gun or with a small, light model like a Kimber Ultra Carry, but just fine when carrying a full size all steel pistol with associated belt gear (magazines, cell phone, etc.). Since that time I've found that the belts without the stiffener do a satisfactory job of supporting even the full size steel guns, and I don't buy the ones with that option any more.

Friendly suggestions:

Check shoulder.

Remove chip.

Respect those whose experiences and conclusions differ from your own, particularly those whose experience is wider and deeper than what you've had the opportunity to see first hand.

This doesn't mean just LEO's and CHL instructors, but includes folks whose work or sport interests require them to deal with situations you may not be familiar with, and folks who have encountered actual or potential criminal confrontation situations. No two are ever exactly the same. These are the posts that often contain valuable nuggets you can learn from.

I've been around the tactical incident block a couple of times myself at both the street and command levels, but I learn something new from other forum members almost every day, and I enjoy having my suggestions and opinions challenged by folks who present ideas that are solid enough to make me stop and rethink my own.

With an open but discriminating mind, you might find this approach to be fun for you as well.
