Ya beat me to it.
I am actually surprised at the decision. I was not expecting this to happen.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish and Wildlife and Parks Lyle Laverty today announced that the Department of the Interior has finalized updated regulations governing the possession of firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. The final rule, which updates existing regulations,
would allow an individual to carry a concealed weapon in national parks and wildlife refuges if, and only if, the individual is authorized to carry a concealed weapon under state law in the state in which the national park or refuge is located. The update has been submitted to the Federal Register for publication and is available to the public on

When will this be effective?

Unless a specific date is mentioned in the rule (and I didn't find one), I believe rules are usually effective as of the date they are published in the Federal Register.
I suspect this will be mentioned on the evening news.

This does not change 18 USC 930 and the prohibition on carrying in "federal facilities", which is defined in that section as a "building or portion of a building where federal employees regularly perform work".

Great news!
Now, if the US Army Corps of Engineers would get with the program it would be even better for us Texans!

I am so jaded.
Anyone want to lay odds on when the first jerk does something stupid and the rules are changed back?
The second amendment is null and void with the stroke of a pen.

God, I pray that this would never be the case.

I was convinced that the Interior Dept would punt this to the next administration appointee. I am stunned they actually made the decision. As others have state, now they just need to extend to Corps of Engineers property, and we're golden!
Cheers!
