This arrived today. A guy going through a D.I.V.O.R.C.E. needed some quick cash so who was I to turn down a Bushy deal?

Picked it up from my local FFL dealer, stripped it, cleaned it, and installed a Magpul trigger guard.
(budget optics are temporary and came with the package)

Headed to the range tomorrow to learn how to shoot it.

Range report:

Learned a LOT today, so here goes in no particular order of significance:

1. I need more money cause I want to shoot 1,000's of round through this gun! MAJOR fun to shoot. I can see myself shooting 500 rounds a weekend, easily. Hmm...on a monthly basis that's a car payment.

2. Wind gusting to 30mph can have a significant effect on 50 yd. accuracy.

3. $30 optics can work better than my ability to shoot through them. The cheap red/green dot worked just fine at 50yds.

4. DO NOT forget to bring everything on your range check list...like...the CLEANING ROD someone on the Forum TOLD you to bring.

Which brings us to:
5. Wolf steel ammo may fail to extract. If it does, you will need the cleaning rod WHICH YOU DON'T WANT TO FORGET AND LEAVE ON THE WORKBENCH.

6. Buy better ammo and more of it cause you're gonna shoot this gun A LOT!

7. I need to thank the Forums for providing plenty of "pre-range" info so I didn't spin out of control when a couple dozen Wolves stayed in the hole.

My "groups" were more like friendly "gatherings" first time out, but there's no question this gun will shoot WAY more accurately than I'm able to shoot today.

But there's always tomorrow and MORE ammo, right?

Day 2 range update:

Made sure gun was clean and wet.

Swapped the Wolf for a different type of ammo:

Shot 100 rounds of Prvi Partizan M193 55 grain FMJ 5.56 with no problems.

(Paid $92.50 for 200 round pack.)

Your comments, feedback, opinions, and general Forum rants are welcome.

1. Personally, yep, I stay away from steel-cased ammo on ARs. The Stoner design doesn't have the honkin' big extractor a Kalashnikov does, and I prefer not to use steel in 'em.

2. Think about an Otis cleaning kit. IMHO, it's the easiest way to deal with those darn tiny barrels.

3. Check Midway or Brownell's for a .223/5.56 broken shell extractor. Cheap, and it'll come in handy.

4. Buy good quality magazines when you can. They're hard to find right now, and you'll end up wanting more than a few.

5. Consider an UpLula for charging the magazines. Better'n sliced bread if you do a lot of shooting.

6. Take at least one Urban Rifle/Tactical Rifle course. You'll learn a lot, but moreover, running a thousand rounds in scenarios over a couple of days is more fun than a free pass to Disneyland.

7. Think about doing some three-gun matches. (See above and below about fun.)

8. Have fun!

Sweet rifle, aint it? I have a cheepie red/green dot on mine too, and its surprisingly accurate. The sights arent really meant for anything further than that, as the dot gets bigger than the target. I used some Locktight on the sight mount as it kept coming loose after each magazine. I have an old Bushnell 3x9x40 Id like to try on it, but Im torn between that and an Eotech. For now, it spends most of its time as a safe queen. As you have found out, it can get costly real quick.

Is that a full 16" M4gery?

Sweet...you should be making a fuzzy hole at 50 yards...those things are accurate out to 500, if its the 16" barrel..studies have shown that the .223/5.56NATO round 16" is optimum and speed/accuracy is not affected (unless you go shorter)

30mph wind is killer on accuracy..but 50 yards is not even stretching the AR style rifles legs at all!!

Learn to shoot irons...forget all that bolt on goop..if it breaks or the batteries wear out...where will that leave you? Learn to shoot accurately with the irons..you really don't need anything else!

Dang, sorry to put you through all that typing, but, no, I can't.

My eyesight is such that I can't use iron rifle sights, and I'm barely able to shoot my Colt Dick at arms length.

I too have had the AR15 bug bite me. You, too can work throught the pain. I love mine so much I built a second.

The way I am working through the bite is with a 22lr coversion kit. I have mine and have been able to shoot only 100 rounds through it so far. Functions flawlessly.

The holidays and my wife's work schedule has severly cut my range time.

When I used to shoot a 30 round mag of .223 it was a TOTAL blast. I loved it. Still do.

30 rounds of decent .223 is 11.50 to 12.00. My 10 round (27 round mags are on the way) at 3 cents a round is down right HEAVENLY. You can only do 25 and 50 yards, but it is so cheap that you do not care. The kit from Midway is $200, but it pays for itself very quickly.

Absolutely. But there's a reason SPECOPS and even grunts in the sandbox use optics.

They help!

That said, they help only if they are secondary to the irons. Always have Back-Up Iron Sights (BUIS).

I'm sure WarHawk-AVG appreciates my qualifying that.

Recent generation optics are a force multiplier. At close distances--and shooting around cover--having a good, quick-acquisition optic beats iron sights hands-down.

That said, I won't trust cheap imitations. My advice would be to stick with Aimpoint, Trijicon, or EOTech. And make sure that a failure of the optic doesn't obscure you're view of those BUIS more than one flat second.

Never said they didn't help....just said when the batteries wear out or the thing breaks...where ya gonna be?

Getting good with irons builds muscle memory...and when bullets are zipping...conscious mental though process goes out the window, fine motor skills go away...you rely on instinct and muscle memory is instinct..shoot good thru irons...shoot good thru bolt on fluff...shoot bad w/ irons..I bet a dollar you don't shoot so well with all those super fru-fru bolt ons.

To each his own..its your AR..its your money..the ONLY thing that counts is having rounds on target when you send them downrange...don't let anyone tell ya differently!

I will say again..thats one beautiful AR (do they actually make an ugly AR???)
