Walther PPS 9MM Market

I have looked at this pistol for several months and read several reviews. I liked it because it is thin and fits good on a thin person!
Many of the reviews I had read named some issue with the pistol and several were good reviews. Anyway, I picked one up and took it to the range with my Springfield XD 9 compact. The PPS went through a box of shells without a hitch. The Springfield had a couple of hiccups which is not really normal. I liked the PPS, the trigger pull is a little more than the Springfield but will make a good concealed fit.
Anyone else out there tried a Walther PPS?

I've put about 500 rounds thru mine without any problems at all. Conceals very well in my Crossbreed Supertuck or Smartcarry. I'm very happy with mine.

My wife saw the commercial on the outdoor channel and now wants one of these pistols. Would you consider one of these suitable for a novice shooter? I am thinking they may be a little too small and I should get her one with a 4 or 5 inch barrel to learn on.

Funny you should ask. At my last women's class a week ago one of my students had a PPS. She was new to shooting and had no trouble shooting the gun and didn't have any gun issues either. She had good shot grouping with it as well. I thought it was a very nice gun.

Actually, I think it's one of the better pistols for a novice because it has a replaceable backstrap so you can fine-tune the fit to the shooter's hands.

Like the others, mine's been a fine gun. Solid, well constructed, and very accurate for such a short barrel. I've put a couple of hundred rounds through my 1st Edition version, and I have no complaints, other than the fact that I don't like the Glock-style take-down that requires you to pull the trigger to field-strip it. Not a serious issue, but not ideal, IMO.

Help me out here - is the PPS the same as the PPK/S, or is this a different model? I've been kicking around the idea of getting a PPK/S, saw one at the gun show yesterday for $485, when I came back to possibly buy it, it was gone. The next closest was $525 at another dealer, no thanks!

Totally different gun. The PPK and PPK/S are .380s, and the PPS is a 9mm.

I have a PPS in 40 S&W. I carry it when I consider any of my 1911s (Commander and Full Size) too big for carry. It also goes in the locking console of my car real nice (that's where it spends most of its time). I use the 7 round mags (Same size as the 8 round mag for the 9mm).

The 40 kicks a lot more than the 9mm (I tried both out as rentals before settling on the 40), but that's to be expected.

Never had a FTF/FTE. Eats everything I've put in it so far. Shoots low, but I hear S&W will send a new front sight with a phone call. I'm gonna chase that down after the first of the year.

All in all, no real complaints and I really like its size when I need small and lightweight - fits my hand beautifully.

You can sacrifice 60 fps going to the 3.5 inch barrel of the PPS in lieu of the 4.0 inch of the Walther P99. That's the published loss between Speer Gold Dot +P and +P short barrel ammo.

Fired some short barrel 124 grain Gold Dots-SB's into well soaked copies of the Wall Street Journal over the break with a 3.25 inch barrel gun. With his first shot, one shooter struck the newsprint near the edge far enough away to stay in the medium but close enough to blow the edge out as I watched the penetration progress.

Ballistic loss or not, anybody you hit COM with that round fired through that length of barrel is in big trouble from a medical standpoint.

All bullets penetrated 10 inches of newsprint. Expansion was textbook quality on the bullets recovered from the dirt behind.
