** HOW-TO make that old milsurp a decent shooter **

I keep hearing people say that old Mosins and Enfields shoot like crap

I have been doing a TON of research and found that due to wartime and mass production the things were usually slopped together...especially the mating between the receiver and the wood...now add 50 years of being buried in cosmoline in some warehouse and soaking up till it swells and contracts and you get the picture.

I went ahead and did a method I found by the guy from The Box O Truth

It appears you can tighten things up considerably with just a few simple tools and a little bit of preparation.

http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/edu82.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; <- Enfield bedding

I used this method...in fact it took me only about 1 hour to prep the stock and get everything ready to do...I sanded the polyurethane off the area I was going to bed (it would have been better to have a Dremel sander to lightly clean up the area w/o removing too much wood)

I recommend if you do it use 15-30 min setting epoxy...the 4 min stuff I had set up crazy fast and I almost didn't have enough time to get the bedding area sufficiently covered before it started hardening...however my fears were calmed when after about 30 min I was able to gently pop the stock away from the wood and not have glued the receiver to the stock (use plenty of release agent!)

He even has a method for the old rattle trap (cant hit the broad side of a barn) Mosins

http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/edu75.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; <- Mosin bedding
http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/edu63.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; <- Poormans barrel bedding

If done right this is a permanent fix for poor accuracy from old abused Milsurp rifles.

Be advised even though its not a major cosmetic change (like hacking the barrel/stock to hell) it can still be considered a "bubba" modification as you are adding non-historic changes to an old Curio and Relic rifle..but to heck with that...if its non-destructive and can make it a decent shooter...go for it!

Let me know what ya think
