Someone on Sigforum had this question:
"What is required for someone on active military duty to purchase a handgun in Texas. If the soldier actual lives in Colorado but is on active duty in Texas what is required for him to purchase a handgun in Texas if legal?"

As far as I know, he can't. I don't think there's an exemption for military folk.

All he should need is a copy of his orders with a Texas address for his assignment. I was in GT's last month when a reservist on active duty was in trying to purchase a pistol. They would not sell to him because the orders just had "Camp Swift, TX" instead of a full address they could verify.
Of course, the easiest way is to just get a local ID, but it shold not be necessary.

I used to take buddies stationed at Ft Hood to find good deals on pistols. All they needed was there orders. I never had a dealer dicker with them about the address but then again every dealer might be different.

My niece and nephew are both stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. The last time they were home, they bought a Taurus at local store and had no problems buying it even though they both have Colorado DLs and Military IDs. I think that residents of certain states can buy firearms in Texas, but I could be wrong. Im sure when Charles or Flint read this thread, they can tell you for sure.

I am on AD, and I have a Texas Dl, I had no problem. My good buddy from MI went to Acadamy and bought a shotgun, all they asked him for was orders bringing him to Texas and his Mil ID.

Yup, all you need is a picture ID and your orders and you are golden. Atleast in ND, FL and TX.
