I was out crusin' today and decided to hit up the local gun shop to check out some of those NAA mini-22's. They were sold out. Walked through the rifle rack and found a used older Marlin Model 60 with the 22" barrel and 18rd tube magazine. It was a Tasco scope on it. The rifle is in great condition. I picked it up for $149. Seems like a good deal for the longer barrel and higher capacity.

One of the very best inexpensive .22's.

A guy I worked with had one of those that he'd had since he was a kid - and he is retired now.
I've seen him put an axe up, blade facing the shooter, with cardboard behind, and split the bullet at 25 yards. Hit the blade edge, two holes in the cardboard. Didn't ask him to do it twice.
Shoot it in good health and have fun!
Regards,
Andrew

There is an old Model 60 like that in my local gun store, $100. It's in pretty good shape. If I had $100 I'd buy it. I have a 795 (box mag version) and I like it a whole lot.

The Model 60 is the 2nd rifle on the list of the top .22 rifles..it only being beaten by the Ruger 10/22 because of its removeable magazine
The accuracy of the Model 60 is uncanny and it will continue to fire even though it is filty..it may slowly grind to a halt but it will gladly try to keep on plinking!
I recommend you get you one of these...

That is really cool. I just brought the Remington Nylon 66 that was sitting in my mom's closet from when I was a kid home, cleaned it up, and fired it yesterday. Lot of fun, but reloading was kind of a pain. This would certainly make things more enjoyable!

My dad gave me the Ruger 10/22, he kept the Marlin Model 60. I am really not sure which I like better. Certainly the detachable mag is nice, but there is something mystical about the Marlin that I really like. Either way....I love the .22LR. Shoot all day and not worry about price

The solution if you like the "something special" about a model 60 but want a detachable mag is a Marlin 795. Maybe if you desire a wood stock, this won't work out for you :)

I have had a commemorative edition model 60 for over 20 years and shot it regularly. It has always performed flawlessly for me, until the last range trip I took. It jammed up on me, and the bolt wouldn't retract all the way to the rear. When I broke it down, I found that the buffer had broken into two pieces. Eight bucks later from Midway, and I had the buffer. Now I just need to install the thing, and I'll be ready for another 20+ years of shooting delight!
The model 60 is a great little .22, especially for it's price. You'll be very happy with it!
