Mike - Do not put your PIN on any documents.

Your application number is in the top right hand corner of the application, should be 7 or 8 digits and ends in "L"

I have nothing there or in the center (like the instructions say). Going to try to call DPS Monday and see if they just forgot to add it or what.

I also applied online, and everything they sent me has that 8 digit number in the upper right hand corner followed by a "L". So I guess that's my application number.

Do I also need to put it on my fingerprint cards, the white copy of the TR-100 and on the back of my 2 passport photos?

FYI, just talked to Rebecca at the CHL office. Started off by thanking her for her hard work, as I know they're swamped. She said THANK YOU... yeah, sounds like sucking up, but hey, why not bring at least a little happiness to overworked people? Especially first thing Monday.

But anyway, I asked her about the lack of a number on my application, and she said don't worry about it, send it in and they'll assign a number when it arrives. Going to get it finalized this afternoon and have the wife send it certified return receipt.

Crossing my fingers and toes....

sent my packet in, after doing everything online.

My question is this:

Is there anything wrong with me not paying ANY attention to my PIN number. What was the PIN number for?

And when would I need it...Did I screw up?

The 'older' style applications did have a preprinted application number on the yellow sheet. These are no longer used. Originally these were used to keep track of applications, but have been discontinued. There are so many packets out there across the state in the hands of various instructors and/or class locations that some of the numbers seem to take forever to get used, they were discontinued. Imagine trying to track blocks of numbers that never get reported. Any what about someone that makes errors on theirs, tosses it and starts over on another packet. All newer packets/applications no longer have application numbers.

When your application is received at DPS, a PIN number is assigned. You will be notified via snail mail of your PIN number. This is not a fast process. My application was mailed on 6/05, received at DPS on 6/09, a number assigned (according to date on letter) on 7/10, postmarked on 7/14, received by me on 7/17.

It took just over a month just to get a PIN number.

Be patient Grasshopper.........

If you apply/pay online, you'll get your PIN with your application packet. I got mine in two weeks.

The primary use for the PIN is to check the status of your application on-line, at this URL.
