I turned in my application back in Mid June, 2008. I got a letter a couple of months later for additional information which I complied in about a week. September rolls around and I got a letter from DPS stating that they are running behind.

I waited for a few more months and finally called DPS towards end of November and they told me they are waiting for my background check. I just called DPS again this week and DPS is still waiting for my background check.

What are my recourse at this time? Is there anyway I can find out why my background check is taking so long? I'm afraid that the people doing background check probably lost my information or something.

Contact governors office and your state rep. That's entirely too long.

A call and/or letter to your state representative asking them to look into the situation on your behalf is in order.
