More of Obama's Veiw's on Firearms

This excerpt is from an article in today's Houston Chronicle. It describes a meeting between Obama and Mexico's President Calderon in DC yesterday.

"Calderon, whom U.S. officials have praised for deploying troops to fight cartels and capturing top drug kingpins, already won a multimillion-dollar anti-drug aid package from Washington last year. Obama supports that plan, known as the Merida Initiative, and promises to take up another cause that Calderon champions: a stop to smuggling guns from the U.S. to Mexico."

Mexico has been complaining about the numbers of "Evil Black Rifles" that have been coming into Mexico from Texas. Several articles in the Chronicle have focused on this in the last several months. Of course the Chronicle likes to label these rifles as "Assult Weapons" rather than what they really are, semi-auto rifles. Mexican's who illegally bring weapons into Mexico are really our problem, right?

It's already illegal to smuggle guns into Mexico. It's up to the Mexican gov't to enforce their own border laws. This goes both ways. Why does Mexico expect us to somehow enforce their border laws and prevent guns from being smuggled into Mexico, but they want us to ignore our own border laws and allow Mexicans to smuggle themselves into the USA? One easy way for Mexico to stop the smuggling of guns from Texas into Mexico would be for Mexico to legalize general gun ownership for their own citizens so they can buy them for themselves in Mexico. Of course this doesn't accomplish the goal. Really what the Mexican government wants is to make tyrannical laws that would never pass in the USA, and then ask the USA to take the whole load for enforcing their ridiculous laws.

True, True.

It's also illegal for the citizens to own guns so any gun there not in the hands of the army or police is against "Mexico's Laws". What a joke.

According to my mother in law, headless corpses hanging from overpasses in Mexico City is a daily occurence. The poor sap is either a kidnap victim or a drug war casualty.

The cartels are so powerful there now that they run the show. I'm not sure why the government even exists down there anymore. I guess they need someone to run the state owned, money losing, oil industry..

I also doubt very seriously that there are all that many guns smuggled from the US to Mexico for the simple fact that it would be too expensive. If the guns are stolen, then that's a different story. With Cuba right around the corner, eastern block weapons would be a lot less expensive and much easier to get.

One last request to my friends on this forum: If you vacation in Mexico, you are a fool. You will be totally defensless and open to kidnapping. Our government can do nothing about it and even if your family pays, chances are good that you will be killed.

Vacation someplace else.

rant over.

I just refuse to let fear run my life. I've witnessed more crime vacationing on the Riverwalk than I have in Mexico.

I have an idea Mexico.....Stop the smuggling of drugs into the US and we will immediately stop the smuggling of firearms into Mexico. That would be an easy promise for the US government to live up to because it would never happen. Maybe we could set up a border swap between the two governments. We will gladly return their drugs if they agree to return our firearms. At least we could keep those nasty black rifles in the US where they are legal and there are plenty of law abiding drug free citizens like me willing to purchase. Or we can take the Obama approach and make guns illegal in both countries so the cartels can have more defenseless pray. Maybe I'm too cynical?

Maybe Mexico needs to take steps to secure their border.

I don't perceive any Americans crossing the border going south bearing volumes of arms. It's Mexicans smuggling guns into Mexico. Let Calderon handle his own problems. Our naive and elitist president elect is soon going to have problems enough of his own crashing down around him. And he is fast going to discover that country club solutions don't work in times like these.

Visit the following site for a clue as to what the newly elected POTUS said on guns and just about every other subject during the campaign process. We'll see what he's really made of - starting next Thursday.

It is my understanding that Obama supports the U.N.
The U.N. supports the banning and confiscation of all small arms.
If the Senate ratifies a treaty with the U.N. that calls for gun confiscation, the treaty supersedes the Constitution's 2nd Amendment. Apparently SCOTUS made the ruling some number of years ago that treaties trump the Constitution.

So, be watchful of the treaties. Especially with the UN.

Optics, firearms, ammunition and loading components could all be subject to new taxes (the "back door" on firearm elimination).
