I just got my new CHL (first renewal...they look ugly this year). What do I do with my old one? Aren't I suppose to send it back? If so then how?

Only if you modified your license from NSA to SA.

How long did it take to get the Renewed, from the time it was sent in ? I have NOT seen any renews or new CHL that was sent in, in December .

The license is not good for 10 years, a law passed last session allows those on there second renew (third license) to skip the class only (making the class a 10 yr requirement) everything else has to be done every 5 yrs.

Seems like I took the course back in late October. So it took about 60 days more or less....and that was after they had to send a form back because something was wrong on it.

So it sounds like I can just hang on to my old CHL even after it expires.

I checked on this recently -- per email from Mr. Montoya at the DPS CHL section, if you have two un-expired CH licenses, you are supposed to return the superseded one. That would included NSA to SA, and address changes. He said (emailed) expired CHL can be destroyed or returned. I asked for the statute or regulation cite, but he didn't put that in his answer.

I posted this email a couple days ago in this thread:

UPDATE!!

I just had brainstorm and went over to check the Texas Administrative Code -- and lo and behold, found this:
Texas Administrative Code

TITLE 37 PUBLIC SAFETY AND CORRECTIONS
PART 1 TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
CHAPTER 6 LICENSE TO CARRY HANDGUNS
SUBCHAPTER B ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION PROCEDURES
RULE §6.14 Duplicate License

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A license holder may not possess more than one license to carry a concealed handgun issued by the department. A license holder who requests a duplicate license based on a change of name or address shall destroy the old license promptly upon receipt of the duplicate license.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
